Comments about Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N USB Adapter:
PC served via wi-fi is in a room full of metal file cabinets that attenuated the signal. Placing the adapter on top of one of the file cabinets made the signal much stronger and the speed faster

Comments about Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N USB Adapter:
We bought this to bring wireless into our living room. When it works, it works great. Our wireless is in a room about 30 feet away and goes through three walls, so no complaints there. The only drawback is that we have to "reinstall" it every time the computer reboots. However, we have it installed on a much older system, so I suspect the problem lies there rather than with the adapter itself.

Comments about Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N USB Adapter:
I first connected the AE1000 to a new Windows 7 computer so that I could transfer files from my old Vista computer. It worked GREAT, not a problem. I then hooked it to the Vista computer so that if I found something I had forgotten to transfer I could get it later, also not a problem. It connected to my old LinkSys G router first try.

Comments about Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N USB Adapter:
This wireless adapter is extremely easy to set up, and data transfer speeds are a lot faster than the original wireless G on my desktop. Right now I just use it for Internet connectivity, and I'm getting fairly consistent upload/download speeds of about 24/30 Mbps, respectively (my fiber optic Internet subscription is 30 Mbps symmetrical upload/download) compared to around 9/15 up/down speeds with my old wireless G. Having said all that, the new adapter frequently disconnects and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to regain connectivity. I don't think I'll buy any more Linsys products; I've had two routers that would periodically have to be reset like this too. Win. 7 x64 Ultimate, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz, 6 GB DDR2 RAM

Comments about Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N USB Adapter:
I bought this to improve my reception in my two story house, as I had pretty poor reception with the built in G wireless card on my Dell Computer. The AE 1000 has even worse reception and won't access the 5 gigahertz channel at all in the area where I use the coomputer. Linksys' response is that interference from my metal firebox must be obstructing. However, the built in N wireless adapter on another Dell computer used in same room gets 4 bars of reception (vs 1 bar on AE 1000). Somehow the firebox doesn't interefere with the Dell N card. The Dell is not dual-band so don't know if the 5 gigahertz side would work.
