Eizo ColorEdge CG223W 22" Widescreen LCD Display
The ColorEdge CG223W 22" Widescreen LCD Display from EIZO is a high-quality monitor, built to the stringent standards required by pre-press, digital photography, video editing, and post production applications. The display features a 1680 x 1050 native resolution, a stunning 950:1 contrast ratio, and 270cd/m² brightness. It features DVI-I and DisplayPort inputs, both with HDCP support.
The monitor is designed for use in environments where accurate color is essential. It features factory calibrated gamma, brightness stabilization, and ColorNavigator calibration software. Color deficiency simulation, 10-bit simultaneous display support, and 16-bit internal processing round out the impressive features of the display.
- Hardware Calibration for Better Color
- ColorEdge monitors offer hardware calibration which means color settings are adjusted inside the monitor so there is no displayable loss of tonalities. This produces more predictable results and ensures color display is much more uniform between ColorEdge units
- Simple and Precise Calibration with ColorNavigator
- The bundled ColorNavigator software makes calibration both simple and quick. Just input target values for brightness, white point, and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a wide range of measurement devices to directly utilize the monitor's look-up table and create an ICC profile within minutes. - Wide Color Gamut
- The monitor reproduces 95% of the Adobe RGB color space and comes with an sRGB preset mode to reproduce this smaller but commonly used color space. For work in broadcasting or digital cinema, preset modes that reproduce the PAL/SECAM, HDTV, SMPTE-C, and DCI color spaces are also included
- Three Inputs Including DisplayPort
- Connect with up to three PCs via the monitor's dual DVI-I inputs which accept digital and analog signals, and the DisplayPort (digital) input terminals. DisplayPort is next-generation connectivity that transmits both video and audio signals
- 10-bit Simultaneous Display
- This monitor employs a 12-bit look-up table with a color palette of 68 billion colors from which the most appropriate 16.7 million (8 bits) are displayed. It also uses 16-bit internal processing for smooth display of grayscale tones without banding. What's more, using the DisplayPort input, this monitor displays 10-bit color which is more than 1 billion colors shown simultaneously. This is 64 times greater than the 16.7 million colors of 8-bit display. The result is even smoother color gradations and noticeably reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors 1
- 16-bit Internal Processing
- With most LCD monitors, the black level is usually too bright which leads to banding and washing out of dark grays. 16-bit internal processing allows the monitor to reproduce a high level of detail in dark areas
- Brightness and Color Uniformity with DUE
- Fluctuations in brightness and chroma on different parts of the screen is a common trait of LCD monitors. To counteract EIZO created a digital uniformity equalizer (DUE). DUE utilizes the monitor's 12-bit look-up table (LUT) with an extensive palette of 4081 grayscale tones for each R, G, and B, and internal calculation accuracy of 16-bits. This ensures a Delta-E difference of 3 or less across the screen when the monitor leaves the factory
- Factory Adjustment of Gamma
- To ensure that each ColorEdge monitor produces the most accurate and consistent color gradations possible, EIZO carefully measures and sets every shade of R, G, and B from 0 to 255 on the production line with the monitor's 12-bit Look-Up Table, to produce a monitor gamma value of 2.2. Should the user prefer a different value, ColorNavigator software can be used to set the gamma value from a range of 1.0 up to 2.6 in increments of 0.1
- Verification Documents Included
- EIZO stands behind the quality of the ColorEdge series by including two verification documents with each monitor. One document verifies the uniformity on 25 points across the screen while the other certifies that all 256 color tones on the gamma curve were individually adjusted at the factory
- Brightness and Color Temperature Stability
- To ensure proper display of color, the ColorEdge CG223W comes equipped with patented EIZO technology that stabilizes the monitor's brightness level after startup or coming out of power saving mode. Furthermore, a temperature sensor detects and automatically suppresses changes in color and brightness caused by fluctuations in the surrounding temperature
- 3D LUT for Better Additive Color Mixture
- The monitor utilizes a new EIZO-developed 3D LUT. Whereas a typical 1D LUT adjusts color on separate tables for each red, green, and blue, a 3D LUT accomplishes this on a single, mixed-color cubic table. A 3D LUT improves the monitor's additive color mixture (combination of RGB), a key factor in its ability to display neutral gray tones
- Ideal for Moving Image Work, Too
- An overdrive circuit is included to reduce gray-to-gray response time to 6ms and ensure that moving images look clean and sharp with an absolute minimum of blurring and ghosting
- Brightness Stabilization From the Minute You Turn It On
- An EIZO-patented drift correction sensor quickly stabilizes the brightness level after startup or coming out of power saving mode. Furthermore, the monitor detects and compensates for brightness changes caused by surrounding temperatures and the passage of time
- Flexible Screen Positioning
- The ColorEdge CG223W comes with a "FlexStand" that offers tilt, swivel, 90° rotation for portrait mode viewing, and 174mm of height adjustment. Its innovative, bearing-less design reduces mechanical wear and the amount of torque required to adjust height
- Color Vision Deficiency Simulation
- To avoid creating inconveniences and even dangers for those with color vision deficiency, care must be taken when choosing color schemes for everyday items such as maps, road signs, web sites, and power indicator lights. This monitor can instantly simulate how still and moving images appear to people with two types of red-green (protanopia and deuteranopia) and one type of blue-yellow (tritanopia) color vision deficiency
- On-Screen Button Guide
- Graphics professionals often work in a dimly lit environment which can make it difficult to read a monitor's adjustment buttons. The ColorEdge CG223W, however, includes an on-screen button guide that labels what each of the buttons are for so you can easily navigate the OSD menu

I am a professional photographer. I cannot say enough good things about this monitor. It's gray scale detection is superb. It's color differentiation is wonderful. It's too bad that less expensive monitors (Dell and Visio) don't do the job. Price is of course the main down side. I just got the monitor so I don't know how well it holds up.

I finally decided it was time to replace my CRT monitor and enter the world of LCD's. My biggest worry was that my experience with LCD monitors told me I could not darken the monitor enough to match the prints coming off of my Epson. With this in mind I decided to buy the best and I'm glad I did. The colors are great. I'm finding it easier to dicern flesh tones and minute changes in color. I darkened the monitor by accessing the on-screen menue and setting the mode to custom. This allowed me to bring the brightness down closer to what I'm used to. I'm still having to retrain myself a bit, but I'm one happy camper. The hood is a nice touch. One thing I've found is that It resets its mode everytime I reboot the computer, but it only takes a moment to set "custom mode" back in. There might be an answer to this - I just haven't had the time to work on it.
