As a photographer, I need lots of storage space to archive my work over time. This drive is already formatted and ready to use on my Mac; plus, it doesn't include any pesky software that I don't need. This makes the 1TB Iomega a pleasure to use as a storage device for my photography work. If you do decide to use it as a back up device however, you can easily get the software you need on line or use it with Time Machine. In addition, I can use it with fire wire cable instead of USB. That is particularly useful to me, considering all of my IMac USB ports are in use with other devices. Finally, the design matches my Mac...nice touch.

I think everybody who has both Mac and PC has the same issue... This can only be used either for Mac or PC. I formatted this for NTFS and bought Paragon NTFS mounter, but it crushed a few times. I did repair disk and now it seems to be working. Maybe it is not because of this product, but it is because of Paragon product. I don't know. If you only have Mac OR PC, this product should work without any problem.

Cheap feel/build quality--seemed like it was going to be an aluminum case, but it is plastic. The on/off switch feels iffy. However, the price was good, and it is bootable (I used Carbon Copy Cloner). I was able to boot and operate my MacBookPro from this hard drive.

I bought this as a dedicated photo storage unit to be used in conjunction with Adobe Lightroom 3. The 1TB provides enough space, and by using it this way, I do not use up any of the vital memory on my iMac hard drive.

I needed a large drive for general back-up esp since my digital photo collection was growing. I definitely wanted FireWire for speedy file transfer in case I start shooting RAW or video. I have had good luck with Iomega products in the past & the fact that it was already formatted for Mac was a plus. The reviews I checked seemed positive & B&H's price was competitive. Set-up was nothing more than plugging it in. While there are many back-up utilities/software, I opted for simplicity & used my iMac's Time Capsule since I'm notoriously bad about doing regular back-ups. The eGo did the initial back-up in only a few minutes & time capsule performs its thing in the background. Drive is very quiet. I like the stand that comes with it that keeps the drive upright so less desk real estate is used. So far, so good. Only thing I might have done differently is opted for less storage capacity so less data at risk if the whole drive fails.

The instruction manual tells you everything you need to know to get the hard drive set up and running quickly. I use it to backup my Macbook so I can have ease of mind when it comes to the threat of my old laptop may quitting on me unexpectedly. It can be a bit noisy from time to time, so instead of having it constantly connected to my computer, I just plug it in about once a week to ensure any new data is backed up. There are more compact hard drives out there, but its clean design and large storage space makes up for that.

Awesome product, all you do is plug it in, no setup, a lot faster than the WD i was using to back up my computer before, easily backed up almost 500gb in 3 hours! Im considering buying another for Video Editing. Mine does make a clicking sound, but honestly, its barely audible.

Got it out of the box, plugged into my iMac, opened Time Machine, selected the new drive and off it went. Quiet, you barely notice it is there and when you do, it's pleasing to the eye and blends quite well with the lines and colors of the iMac itself. Looks good and it does the job of keeping a copy of your data and providing peace of mind if something were to go wrong with your computer.

I use this drive as my backup with Time Machine on my Mac. It was very easy to set up, just plug it in and go. Having it pre-formatted for the Mac is definitely the way to go! Drives I have bought in the past from other companies had to be re-formatted, and sometimes that didn't work very well.Very quiet, and it doesn't have a bright light on it that floods my room at night. I have a very common problem that was so easily solved. No more hard drive storage. I couldn't download pics or songs or even upgrade certain softwares. Like the Mac, this eGo external HD was so user friendly. No big instructions to sift through. Just plugged it in, loaded my iphoto and iTunes libraries onto it and deleted the files on my iMac to make more room. Now my iMac has about 100 gb of new space. It really does seem to run faster than before and I can freely download pics, songs, upgrades, etc.. I got the 1 TB, because my iMac is about 5 years old and maybe I'll be wanting a completely new iMac in a year or two. 1 TB was plenty for me.
All good and totally recommend this product. That said, I've only had it running for a few weeks.

Had really been looking for a small backup for my MAC computer that didn't have to be plugged into the wall but wound up with this one because of good reviews and good price. It's a bit large, and DOES have to be plugged into the wall because it's not a portable one. But once it's connected, if room on your desk is not a problem -it's great. No problems.
