I researched external hard drives for a while before getting this one. It had very good reviews. B & H had the best price. I have started up an online photography business and have filled up my computer hard drvie and my first, 3 year old 250gb Seagate external hard drive, so I was looking for something bigger with a firewire connection. I really appreciate that it came with all the cables I would need to hook it anyway I wanted. I didn't install the extra software, but it works fine right out of the box without it. They are following the trend of very little instructional info, but the website is helpful for anything more advanced than plugging it in. I have a 3 year old 250gb iMac desktop machine that is still running Tiger. I had no problems connecting and using the eGo. I wasn't worried about looks because it sits behind my screen, but it does look good. It makes a little whirring noise when it first starts up, but other than that, it is silent. I've had it 2 weeks and I'm still nervous about trusting it completely with all my photos, so I haven't deleted any files off my computer hard drive, which I need to do badly. (that's just me, I'm very cautious when it comes to saving files.) I will give it a month or two of use, then start deleting. I'm very please with the hard drive, [...] They are top notch.

I bought this drive less than 3 months ago and it has failed twice now. I've never had a hard drive fail before. I am ditching this unreliable thing and getting a G drive like I should have in the first place. I was just looking to save a little money, but obviously that was a mistake.

Comments about Iomega eGo Silver Desktop Hard Drive Mac Edition (2TB):
I purchased this HD with the intention of partitioning it 3 ways. One partition is being used for general HD space and the other two are currently being used as time machine back-up on two different macs.I shopped around for a while reading reviews and this particular drive kept rising to the top of my list. [@] has it, but B&H beat their price significantly. The package arrived in great condition within the same week I ordered it. Set-up was a breeze (especially since the box contained 3 different connection cables - I wasn't expecting that). My old iMac and new Macbook Pro both recognized the drive immediately and the partitioning took no time at all using "disk utility."This drive is extremely fast when using the 9-pin to 9-pin firewire cable. It takes less than 5 minutes to back-up my entire macbook (after the initial back-up of course). This drive looks great on my desk and has more than exceeded my expectations. I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a reliable fast back-up. In fact I may purchase another one myself.

We use the HD as an external source for back up, so far so good, I hope it stays the same way.

Comments about Iomega eGo Silver Desktop Hard Drive Mac Edition (2TB):
Purchased as external hard drive for additional memory for working audio/video projects and for backup.
So far, it's served quite satisfactorily (one month).
White cables look nice.
Total available memory 1.82 TB, so it's ALMOST 2TB.
It came with NO guiding printed info or installed software of any kind that I could tell.

I've only had this drive for a few weeks, but it's been useful for what I need it for...backing up my mac. I use G-Tech drives for all my work stuff, but their 2TB drives are so expensive, and I just needed a drive to backup my computer, so this has come in handy. If it dies at some point, I'll update the review, but for now, it does the job.

This product is still relatively new for me to give a true assessment; I only bought it because of the great review it got and that it was design especially for a Mac.

It comes preload for MAC but you can use it for both. Just have your MAC computer reformat it in a FAT32 file type. If you let a Windows computer do it in NTFS a MAC computer can see it but can not write to it.

I've only had the eGo external HD (2tb) for a couple weeks now but it's working great so far. I frequently edit video on my mac and the firewire 800 inputs with this hard drive make everything go a lot smoother. I definitely recommend this device for any mac user with an extensive music collection or lots of video to store but wants to keep themselves to a budget.

Absolutely exactly what I expected from iomega - run of the mill desktop drive, works perfectly firewire and USB - really a great piece of value. Completely plug-and-play, my only reservation with these kinds of drives is the power block and cables make it fiddly to just throw in a bag and go. It's still portable, but it's just bulky.

Using this as a Time Machine backup drive to replace an aging SimpleTech 320 GB. Only had for a month, and so far impression of is great.
The best things about this drive:
- Spins up fast, unlike my old drive
- Quiet, unlike my old drive
- Nothing to configure at all. Nothing. I just plugged in the included Firewire cable and it was good to go.
The design is pretty nice too with the exception of the bright blue LED. It is REALLY BRIGHT, always on, and can literally serve as a night light. But whatever, not a big deal.

While looking for a replacement hard drive, I discovered that the Iomega from my Zip Disk days is still around (in one form or another). I decided to part ways with LaCie because a hard drive is more than a pretty enclosure. It should be a machine that's not going to slowly loose strength, fade away and finally stop appearing on my desktop. So far, I am very happy with the performance of the eGo.
The only tiny grumble I have was a missing rubber pad on the drive stand/support; no big whoop, but a flaw just the same. It's the hard drive that counts. Ask me again in a year if it's worth that last star.

I use this with my 27" iMac. The all aluminum inclosure goes well with my mac. The 2 TB storage is great for using time machine. It is ready to go right out of the box. Formatted and all the cables you would ever need. All my files are backed up with plenty of space for more. I have had Iomega HD's in the past and so far they all still work. So fare this one works just as well. Quiet as well, i never hear it on. Even when it is backing up, which it does every hour with time machine.
