Comments about Cascade Microphones Fat Head Ribbon Microphone Pair with Blumlein Bar (Brown/Gold):

These mics did not astound me. They did not turn my $250 Epiphone acoustic into a $2500 Gibson J45. I did not sound like Frank Sinatra. They did not improve my gas mileage.

BUT; they sounded awesome. These are not the Ferrari or Mercedes of the mic world; these are WORKHORSES. They sound rich, thick, syrupy and smooth while sounding clear and articulate. They ROCK on guitar cabs and sound fantastic in blumlein for singer/songwriter in-the-room sound.

If you want a $4000 mic that gets used once in a while, this ain't it. If you want a great value on a pair of mics that you'll use on every single session, these babies are it!

Comments about Cascade Microphones Fat Head Ribbon Microphone Pair with Blumlein Bar (Brown/Gold):

The ribbon mic has had a real strong comeback over the years from when I started recording on a vintage RCA (1940's RCA). I feel the sonic finger print is even more needed as digital becomes to clean. I do find the lower output not a problem with good pre's. I use these on cymbals because of the sizzle type sound that sometimes can be produced by my condenser overheads. I have used other brands and all mics have there place. A good thing to remember is placement. The bar is an added bonus as I will use that with other matched mic sets.

Comments about Cascade Microphones Fat Head Ribbon Microphone Pair with Blumlein Bar (Brown/Gold):

I'm using these as a stereo drum overhead solution. They will definitely come in handy for vocals, guitar amps, and acoustic jams. Very warm sound, wide frequency range. Love 'em!

Comments about Cascade Microphones Fat Head Ribbon Microphone Pair with Blumlein Bar (Brown/Gold):

I had the good luck of a bandmate that owned a pair of these, so I was able to try them out in different settings before recently purchasing a pair of my own.
They tend to be a bit 'dark' for my preference on guitar cabs, vocals, etc. But are worth their weight in gold for drum overheads. I've always found condensers for drum overheads to be overly harsh, but these Fatheads are some of the most transparent mics I've found for drums- the drum sounds like the drum (or cymbal...), period, leaving you endless options for processing after the fact.

Comments about Cascade Microphones Fat Head Ribbon Microphone Pair with Blumlein Bar (Brown/Gold):

I bought these mics for my semi-professional studio about a month ago. In that time i have used them on vocals, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. They make mellow vocals warm and sultry while acoustic guitars shine. However if your recording a loud singer or heavy vocals I'd suggest something else. What first attracted me to these mics was the price. two ribbon microphones for such a low price? They must be junk. But after doing several weeks of research and talking to people that had them I decided to make the purchase. I'm so glad I did! The only downside to these mics is that they are ribbons and the user must be careful in handling them so as not to damage the coils. So avoid plosives when doing vocal takes, this is where pop-filters come in handy. Cascade Mics definitely stepped up.
