With its on-board GPS system, the CPC 800 GPS (XLT) Computerized Telescope from Celestron is up and running after locating just three celestial objects. After this initial process, the scope's internal computer utilizes the integrated GPS system to automatically pinpoint the scope's exact coordinates. Once the alignment process is completed, the NexStar hand-controller can access the computer's comprehensive database to locate over 40,000 objects. The CPC 800 allows the observer to navigate through the intricate labyrinth of deep sky objects, planets, and bright double stars with ease.
The CPC 800 features a Schmidt-Cassegrain optical path with an 8.0" aperture and a focal length of 2032 mm. The scope's lenses have been treated with Celestron's proprietary XLT coatings to ensure maximum light transmission. The viewing system also includes a 90° erect-imaging Star Diagonal and a limited edition eyepiece kit. The kit includes 5 1.25" Plossl eyepieces, a 2x Barlow lens, and 7 filters. A 9x50 finderscope has been provided to assist the viewer with aligning the scope and locating objects.
The CPC 800 comes assembled with the motorized mount attached and ready for use. To support this high-performance optical system a steel tripod has been added to the package. Featuring 2.0" legs and an accessory/support tray - it's stable, rugged, and reliable.
The CPC 800's computer utilizes the NexStar hand-controller and an integral GPS module to locate objects in the sky. Several alignment procedures are available, but the simplest and fastest method is to access the SkyAlign option. SkyAlign is the point-and-shoot of telescope alignment procedures. With SkyAlign at the helm - no knowledge of the night sky is needed - the scope will align itself after it is pointed at any 3 bright objects. After the alignment process is complete, the GPS module takes over. Within moments, the CPC 800 will home-in and center on the selected planet, star, or object. The CPC 800 can also be controlled by a computer with the included NexStar program and RS-232 cable.
