This Elinchrom Multifunction Cap for Ranger Quadra not only protects your Ranger RQ S or A flash head, flash tube and modeling light plus the 5.3" (13.5 cm) RQ reflector it fits on to--it's also a frost diffusion filter for the flash, and it accepts color gels. A lot of bang for very few bucks.

Comments about Elinchrom Multifunction Cap for Ranger Quadra:
I agree that these caps should have been included in the kit because the bare bulb alone is not immune to breaking (I hesitate sometimes to place the head on the ground even with the reflector), because it looks so fragile. The cap is a great idea because I no longer have that anxiety about accidently dropping the head and having the bulb crack. It is advertised as a multifunction cap, claiming that it can diffuse the light, but I did not find that the diffusion is all that great. I get better results with the softbox (obviously), but I had hopes that the cap would somehow make my softbox obsolete on shoots that required a bit more discretion. Not so much. The diffusion doesn't look much different than the bare bulb and reflector - in fact, you get far more light spillage out behind the reflector. I might liken it to the effect of a profoto globe, or a giant omni bounce. Other than that, it is worth it to spend just for the protection of the bulb.

This is another item I think that Elinchrom should have included with their heads which is why I give it only one star.

Comments about Elinchrom Multifunction Cap for Ranger Quadra:
This product attaches to the standard reflector, protects the flash tube during transport, and somewhat diffuses the light, but it has some faults.1. You can't use this to use gel filter with umbrella with 7mm shaft. This cap blocks the access to the umbrella hole on the head, so you'll have to use a separate umbrella bracket, if you like to use this. Why not just tape a bigger piece of gel filter around the head?2. Even if you don't use an umbrella, this cap is really hard to insert gel filter properly, and you'll end up having to use tapes anyway. So, if you determine that the price is worth paying just for the protection and possibly diffuser, that's okay. But I wouldn't have high hope beyond that.

Comments about Elinchrom Multifunction Cap for Ranger Quadra:
Although the cap does diffuse the light somewhat, I usually use a softbox or an umbrella to soften the light. I do find that the caps protect the bulb much better while transporting the lights. Good addition to a good system
