Comments about Sony RDP-XF100iP iPod Portable Speaker Dock:
I got this player after trying other players. I even bought one and brought it back. I compared this player to the Bose portable which is double the cost. The cost does not weigh high enough foe the price of the Bose one. I like that this has a radio which picks up far away stations. This player pumps out the bass and does it quite well. On battery player function it played well and I did not notice any difference from it being Plugged in. I highly recommend this player I have had it about two weeks and I play it everyday when I am cooking.

Had great sound, but it toggled between functions randomly - it would switch from ipod to FM radio etc. by itself. We returned it!

Comments about Sony RDP-XF100iP iPod Portable Speaker Dock:
I purchased the Sony RDP-XF100IP a couple of weeks ago and I really put it to the test !!!! I compared it along side of my Bose SoundDock Portable! I had read so many good things about the Sony RDP-XF100IP, and some even dared to compare it to the more costly Bose SoundDock Portable. They are both close in size but the Sony is a little lighter "maybe because of the much smaller battery" !So how does the Sony RDP-XF100IP sound ? It sounds really good and for the money and the size of the unit it sounds great! When I was in [...] I listened to the Logitech s715i and I compared it to the Sony RDP-XF100IP, the Sony won hands down, the Logitech s715i sounded a little tiny and weak compared it to the Sony RDP-XF100IP !But still I can say that the Logitech s715i sounds better than any portable speaker it's size "1.5 lbs" that I have ever heard ! As far as the Logitech s715i goes I would never buy that unit because when it is ran by battery power it cuts the bass in half and it also cuts the volume down, to me that is a deal breaker, but if the Logitech s715i gave me a choice to turn off the battery saver mode, I would buy it in a heartbeat ! I hate the fact that when you run some units by battery they automatically go into battery saver mode and then they cut the bass and volume way down "Harman Kardon's Go + Play" does the same thing and I hate it !I used my mp3 player, playing the same songs, when I compared the Sony RDP-XF100IP sound to the Bose, I noticed at first that the Sony,s mid-range sounded a little colored, you might say a little dark or bass heavy, while the Bose sounded perfect. After I adjusted my mp3 player and removed some of the bass, the Sony sounded almost as good as the Bose, and with some songs just as good if not better. But I must say over all I think the Bose sounded just a little bit better !But for half the price I think Sony did a really good job! I also compared the over all volume of each speaker !This is where Bose beats the Sony hands down !!!!When I was indoors the Sony played reasonably loud but when I went outdoors around a lot of traffic, and playing the Sony at "Full Volume", the Sony got drowned out!!!For some reason the Sony can't play really loud !On the other hand the Bose can scream,I have taken my Bose around heavy traffic many times with no problem what so ever!Matter of fact the Bose gets so loud until I'm afraid I might get in trouble for disturbing the peace !If 10 was the loudest volume the Bose could play at , I would say in comparison, the Sony plays at about 6 1/2 to 7 ! Now lets talk about the Rechargeable lithium-ion Battery's !The Sony comes with a very small Battery that fits inside of the unit, on the other hand the Bose has a very large Battery that fits on the back of the unit! The Sony battery lasted less than 2 hours while playing at a high volume for the Sony ! On the other hand I have played the Bose for 5 and six hours "with battery power left over" at a louder volume than I played the Sony at !!!!The Bose battery is far superior to the Sony's !!!The comparatively low volume and the weak battery life of the Sony was a deal breaker for me, so I return the Sony !But if you can put up with the volume of the Sony and the weak battery life you could save $200 vs buying the Bose ! You have to decide for yourself ! Now lets talk about the Bose a little more , I have owned the Bose SoundDock Portable for about a year now and it is without a doubt the best sounding battery powered portable speaker for it's size "5.2 lbs"!!!!! There are a few larger portable speakers that sound a little bit better than the Bose when ran by AC! To name a few that may sound a little better, Harman Kardon's Go + Play, Kicker iK501, Altec Lansing iMT800, Bowers & Wilkins'Zeppelin, iPod Hi-Fi, Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 !What do all of those speakers have in common? They are all much larger than the Bose, about twice as large!!!! None of them run on a long lasting Rechargeable lithium-ion Battery like the Bose does !Bottom line is Bose is the Best "Pound per Pound" battery powered portable speaker system for it's size !!!! I have the Harman Kardon's Go + Play, I had the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7,the Sony RDP-XF100IP, plus I have many others and I can't find a small "around 5.2 pounds" speaker system for any price that beats the Bose !!!I don't want to carry around a unit that is larger or heaver than the Bose SoundDock Portable, so if you think you know of a "Better" Battery Powered Portable Speaker System that weighs around the same or less than the Bose with the battery included, please let me know, I don't think one exists at this time !
Comments about Sony RDP-XF100iP iPod Portable Speaker Dock:
If you want to have good sound from a speaker unit you can take around the house--whether you're working or relaxing--this unit easily fills the bill at this price. I compared the sound of various units in this price range at a local store and hands down, this Sony had the BEST sound--warm and full for the size--definitely not tinny. There are some minor downsides as others have mentioned--fingerprints will show on the shiny black finish, the remote control needs to be in close and direct range, and the iPod needs to be taken off the docking station when you move the unit--but to me, those issues are all minor compared to getting a nice sound where you want it in your house or office. And, you can't beat the B&H price and warranty!

Comments about Sony RDP-XF100iP iPod Portable Speaker Dock:
I recently purchased a 5th gen iPod nano and wanted a way to play it in my office at work. After reading a variety of online reviews, I chose this product over the BOSE SoundDock Series II and the iKick 501. Although I was told that the iKick has great bass, it simply doesn't look suitably professional for my office. The BOSE possesses the requisite professional appearance, but is pricey and has a reputation for iffy bass response. (Note: I did not personally listen to any of these products prior to my purchase.)
I've purchased quite a bit of photography equipment from B&H over the years, and was pleased to find that they had a very competitive price on this item. After receiving the unit approximately a week ago, I have been very impressed with it so far. It does look sleek and professional, and actually sounds very good for its size -- including solid bass response via the aft-facing bass port that doubles as a carrying handle. And the AM/FM radio is a key feature that I desired, which neither the BOSE nor the iKick possess. The included remote control is nicely sized and seems to work well at distances up to about 8 feet. I have not yet used the unit as a portable, so can't really comment on battery life. I also haven't tried the auxiliary audio input.
Minor gripes: the "organic LED" display is crisp, but is fairly dim (and it automatically turns off after a few seconds, so it's not like the brightness of the display would be distracting in a dark room). I personally would prefer that the display be a bit brighter and always remain illuminated. The touch-sensitive buttons can be a little...well...touchy, but they seem to work fine once you become accustomed to them. Hopefully they are durable too. I wish the play/pause button functioned as a mute for the radio, but that can be solved by simply turning the unit off. To dock my iPod, I have to push a little harder than feels comfortable, but both the iPod and the Sony are new so maybe that will improve with time. Now if only I could find a 5th gen nano Universal Dock Adapter that is black instead of the white one that comes with the nano...
