The EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount from GigaPan is a unique camera mount that empowers most DSLR cameras with the ability to capture gigapixel (one billion pixels) panoramic images with phenomenally high resolution, depth and clarity. It will support camera and lens combinations weighing up to 10 lb (4.5 kg), is easy to use and remarkably efficient.
Simply set the corners of the panorama you want to capture using the LCD interface.
The built-in software works out how many photos your camera will need to take, hundreds or even thousands. Then the EPIC Pro begins snapping the photos, automatically organizing them in overlapping rows and columns. After shooting, the GigaPan Stitch software (free download included) assembles, aligns and blends the individual images into one large panorama. The software then lets you to upload your panorama to GigaPan.com for sharing. You also can embed your uploaded panorama onto any website.

For anybody that has taken panoramic photos using stitched-together contiguous frames, this is the answer to at least some of the problems you must have encountered. Cost aside, this easy to set up unit will automatically take sequences of overlapped photos--linear or matrix--with precise positioning and overlap of the frames. It also comes with software that automatically stitches and blends the individual frames together into a gigantic very high spatial resolution image that can be post-processed or published for fee on the gigapan.org site so that others can view it in detail using the same type of pan a zoom tools that Google Maps uses to display satellite images.Perfect for large scale landscapes, there are also other types of very high resolution photographs of largely static scenes for which this tool can be an effective solution short of using a medium format digital camera.Although I have been using this device for only a short time, I have found some issues that could be improved:When used with a long lens, the proper setup to minimize parallax puts the camera so far back from the vertical pivot axis that it becomes dangerously out of balance. Luckily, I was able to add a counter weight to the front of the camera mounting platform so that the mass was counterbalanced without exceeding the unit's maximum load capacity of 10 pounds.Because the camera shoots a large number of frames sequentially, any movement within the panoramic scene between the individual exposures results in various artifacts such as "ghosts" and "fractured" objects. The software doesn't allow for the manual correction of these visual anomalies. One possible improvement would be to allow shooting the frame sequence in a zig-zag pattern instead of either a vertical or horizontal raster which are the two patterns offered. The overlap between frames can be varied, however the minimum is 25% on all sides. Although this may be a lower boundary for use with the automatic stitching software provided, for other software techniques it results in an excessive number of frames, and only increases the chance of introducing visual artifacts dues to movement within the scene being photographed. To end on a well-deserved positive note, this is a fine piece of equipment that truly takes advantage of several digital technologies to enable extremely high resolution images at a comparatively low cost. Relatively simple to setup and let it do its thing clicking off hundreds of shots.
Unless my unit is defective, I don't know how anyone can call this a sturdy device.
The motor on my unit that connects to the tripod has far too much wobble so relatively high shutter speeds _must_ be used with this. Forget about doing any kind of night time cityscapes.
I will be requesting an RMA in the morning.

Gigapixel panoramas. The algorithms for calculating the scans are good. Wabbley, will not stay level during rotaton - regardless of what i tried. Poor method for centering the camera lens. The cable provide for my camera was too short for the extreme reaches of devices tilt. Needs USB support for laptops. Could have better features for the price of this item.

What a well thought out product. Mine came with the latest firmware and I was creating 360 degree panoramas in just a few minutes.

Comments about GigaPan EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount:
The quality of the robot is excellent. The quality of the mounting hardware? Garbage. [*]The lever mounting hole was crooked, the screw was stripped (this little screw is all that holds the lever in place - and the lever locks your camera!) Mine arrived with the parts rattling around in the box. The mounting system is a rip-off of the Bogen/Manfrotto plate system, only the Bogen is much higher quality.I honestly don't know it I'll keep this robot - I DO NOT trust the mounting system.

Easy to setup and deploy for large scale landscape.
The only thing I dislike is the camera base plate that hold/lock the camera mount plate it will give way before the Epic pro.

I use this for VR HDR nodal panoramic photography. (Gigapanning with a Canon 7D and Nikon D300. I use up to 360 mm telephot shooting as many as 9 bracketed shots with as low as 40 degree field of view with a 128 GB CF card. It takes less than 10 minutes to set the camera and Gigapan head up and shoot a session that takes as many as 10,000 shots in one session. I would never do that without this device.
It pack easily in a 15 inch laptop briefcase along with attachments and extra batteries.
The only thing bad about this product is the company never returns calls or emails for product help. They are very prompt when ordering accesories such as extra batteries.

I intended to use this product for some 360 degree shots inside a house before and after a renovation. The unit is programmed well and does the job if you have the time to sit down and correct the pictures afterward. The unit we had would not stay level as it turned, this could have been a defect though. All in all it is a Great idea and worth trying out if you need some Panorama or 360 degree shots.

The Giga Epic Pro is the best piece of new equipment I have ever used. It takes wide angle photos to a whole new level. It is easy to set-up, easy to use and make outstanding photos. After you have made you Giga photo, the web site you post it on is great.

Comments about GigaPan EPIC Pro Robotic Camera Mount:
Looks pretty ugly but does exactly what it's meant to and seems sturdy if not a little clunky. The Epic Pro allows systematic exposure of multiple shots with lot's of other functions including time delay, ability to bracket exposure and you can even save previous pans, you are in total control. Easy to use and straight forward, seems like great value for money, most will quickly recoup the low cost of this fantastic piece of kit. I've only used the Epic Pro a few times and I have some slight concerns about reliability, sturdiness, fit and finish these questions won't be answered for sometime to come but it's all good presently.
On the whole, build quality tends to be directly related to cost, kit aimed at a pro's tends to be a lot more expensive and designed a lot better.

Very easy to use and take stunning panoramic images with resolutions in the gigapixel range! Has many new features over old models & can support up to 10lbs! Took me 15 min. to learn how to set it up and I completed my first 162-photo pano in 20 min! I would HIGHLY recommend, however, buying the Arca-Swiss camera mount as the supplied plate is made of plastic and after using it once I knew I would be breaking it in no time at all just from tightening my camera down to the Epic Pro.
