Really pleased with this monitor. I did not appreciate the difference in color space I was missing until I compared it with my Samsung 244T. I've got them set up side by side and with the right photo, it's easy to see the colors I've been missing.I calibrated it right after setup up, then checked the calibration. It really does cover almost the entire Adobe RGB colorspace. In fact, the monitor exceeds Adobe RGB in Reds/Purples matches it everywhere else except a little bit in greens.Quick note -- I've got a Spyder 3 Elite calibrator in addition to the custom X-Rite NEC calibrator included. My bad for not checking, but I discovered the Spectraview II software can use the Spyder 3 puck. I tried it and recommend you stick with the provided wide-gamut custom calibrator provided. It gave a much better calibration. Finally, I searched the web hard to find reviews on this monitor, and a better price. All the reviews were highly positive and no other retailer came close to B&H's price. To make the deal even sweeter,[...]If you need a high quality color accurate monitor at well less than Eizo ColorEdge prices, you can't beat this monitor

Boy was I excited when this monitor arrived. I opened it up, got everything set up, and turned it on alongside my 6 month old Dell U2410.
Oh the disappointment. The first noticeable issue was baseball sized backlight bleeding (BLB) on the top left of the monitor. As it was on more, the worse I noticed it. Slight BLB on the top right, then on the right side. The blacks were not nearly as dark as the U2410. I also noticed a dead/hot teal pixel on the top right of the screen. If I opened a browser, it lit up bright.
I returned it and they were more than helpful. Since I originally had it AM overnighted, they AM overnighted me another one before I sent the first one back. The second monitor was first than the first. BLB wasn't quite as bad, but still noticeable and unacceptable for the price, especially compared to the U2410. On the right side of the screen there was a dead teal pixel and a line going straight down the screen all the way from top to bottom. If I opened a browser, this teal line turned bright yellow. Absolutely terrible.
Once again, this is going back and they are AM overnighting me one for Saturday delivery. I was assured that "this one may be checked by QC before shipment" so I am hopeful it won't arrive damaged...again. If it arrives and competes/surpasses my U2410, I will amend my rating.
As for now, this has just been a hassle and a waste of money.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
This is a bright beautiful display. I purchased it for color correct photography and only really use it for that purpose. I can't really compare it to higher price monitors, but I doubt my eye would be good enough to discern a difference. Also, I enjoy watching Spectravision run through the calibration routine. Its all automatic once you place the calibration puck on the monitor. If I have one small gripe it is that the monitor is not smart enough to know that when I pivot to portrait mode it should readjust the zoom and aspect ratio to get full screen. Instead you have to go into the monitor's menu settings and reset the zoom every time you go from landscape to portrait and back again. Its a pain, but I don't know if any other monitor handles it any differently.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
I tried everything to make this product work. I liked the idea of the integrated SV II calibration SW and X-Rite colorimeter. After my first calibration with standard Photo Edit Profile settings my colors appeared saturated; the oranges looked reddish, the greens/yellows darker. I was sure this was the case because I was looking at web pictures that I've known forever and even did a test comparison with a calibrated Eizo monitor at the lab I work at. I contacted NEC and at their suggestion replaced the colorimeter but it did not make a difference. I tried multiple settings and profiles on the SV II Software and achieved no better results. [...]

This NEC model is absolutely wonderful. Solved my printing matching concerns and saves money by making fewer prints to get it right. It is without doubt, one of the easiest monitors to calibrate and color controls are made as easy for the amateur as well as professional. I haven't found any negatives in using it to date.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
I've had the display for just about one month and am extremely pleased so far. Although not inexpensive, this display provides a large enough display area and other valuable features that fit within my budget. This is my first professional level display and overall setup of the display and accompanying software was not difficult. Calibration with SpectraViewII is also very easy and delivers great results.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
I am an artist photographer who needs a high quality display for viewing and processing images. I have paired this with a Mac Pro.
Contrary to the reviews I read before purchasing, set up of the display and of Spectraview is NOT EASY for a non-technical person. I'm pretty smart when it comes to setting up my equipment, but there were things in the box whose use was never explained. It was just assumed that the user would know what they are for. Instructions and explanations were minimal and read as if they were bad translations. I spent a lot of time going to discussion boards to get the information that was missing from NEC.
I'm not convinced yet that this display and its calibration software justifies the extra $$$ I spent and my choice of it over my other candidate. I'm sure it will be fine, but not convinced I spent my money wisely.

I have to admit, I am just bginning using phtoshop and wanted a monitor that I could grow into. So my review isn't really going to help experienced users of monitors. It's really for beginners who want to stepup from regular computer monitors. I read the reviews and received some advice from an expert and this is the monitor I purchased. After a few weeks of using it, I could not be happier. I've printed a few pictures and compared them to the screen and have been extermely happy with the results.
I look forward to using it more and more.
It was fairly easy to set up and the SpectraView was easy to use.

This is an amazing professional monitor I have been using for my photography work. The SpectraView II color calibration is the easiest thing to use, teaching you step-by-step how to calibrate your monitor and I must say the color fidelity is just awesome! You can see the many tones of black and so many other colors with the 98% coverage of the adobe RGB.

I use my PA241W for image processing. I take several hundred wildlife images per week and use this monitor to preview out of camera jpegs and then manipulate the RAW file in DxO and convert.
The ease of calibration is wonderful and the resulting image has huge contrast and very accurate color rendering.
A good monitor like this really makes image processing much easier.

I use mainly for photo editing tied to my MacBook Pro. It came down to cost choices between a higher end monitor or a paper profiling system to gain maximum accuracy with a capped budget. I gained far closer screen to print accuracy and feel the money was well spent.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
After suffering through several years of prints not matching what I saw on my Dell monitor, I broke down and bought the NEC PA241W-BK-SV monitor. While my Dell monitor was really a pretty nice monitor, it could not be calibrated and Dell, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to provide a driver for Windows 7.The setup and calibrating was no huge deal as the NEC calibration program did the heavy lifting. At first I was not wowed by the colors on the screen. But I soon figured out that I was operating on a One Size - Fits All monitor profile that was automatically installed by Windows 7. I quickly found the correct profile in the provided software and downloaded it.All I can say is "WOW". I randomly chose a photo out of a group that I'd been working on. I couldn't believe the detail that I could now see.Last night, the final test. I had not yet printed any photos after having received the NEC monitor. (My photo printer was in for service) I finally got everything hooked up and printed a photo that I was working on. For the first time ever!! The photo's colors matched what I saw on the screen! If you're considering purchasing a new monitor for photo or graphics work, definately consider this one! BTW: I had read how heavy this monitor was. It's not that heavy. Of course, I didn't purchase this monitor to be toting it around. If extra weight is the price for this kind of performance, it's a sweet tradeoff.[...]

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution:
This is an excellent professional photo editing monitor, at a much more reasonable price than a comparable Eizo. Quite easy to set up, and by running the SpectraView coloromiter, colors will soft-proof about as close as you can get for your printing profiles. Very even illumination across the entire display. You can create and store several custom profiles to suit different monitor applications, and changing between them is a breeze. This is a very good buy.
