Extremely nice color for my photography and video work. I do not use this monitor professionally, but in my view, this monitor is the cat's meow. I set it to Adobe RGB color space, then ran a calibration with Spider3 hardware. There was almost no difference in the before and after views in the Spider software after the calibration. That's an A+ for the monitor in my book.
The monitor puts out considerably more heat than my 23" Apple Cinema Display did. But, the recently discontinued Apple 30" puts out even more heat than this monitor, according to the specs. duh...this is a 27" monitor.
This monitor weighs in at 30 pounds. I guess I've come to the conclusion that the high end displays are all beefy. I would suppose it's because there's a lot more robust equipment inside that controls the even illumination and amazing color.
Now that Apple is out of the desktop display business, I can highly recommend this NEC PA271W for photo and video work.

This is a great monitor for general editing and light composition work.
/// however - if you are one of the few people who can see the anti-glare coating material : then this monitor is not for you. ( looks like noise in the highlight areas ) This monitor is not for high end skin retouching simply due to this physical attribute.
For general use - it's fantastic.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
This NEC monitor is admittedly more than capable of displaying the simple things I work with on my computer. As such it is a luxury for me. I have had it calibrated, but the as delivered display was really fine. I do not color match or do refined photo adjustments with PhotoShop etc. However I can tell you the pure green desktop I work on is evenly lit corner to corner and there are no non functioning pixels.
Not so great? What would I improve? Nothing that I can report after a month's use. I may add a hood.

Excellent product.
I was first reluctant to invest that amount of money on a screen, but when you think of it, how many hours do you spend in front of a screen?
I'm a graphic designer and an amateur photograph, it's definitely a good investment for the kind of work I do.

Huge. (I like huge). No dead pixels. Using the SpectraView software I can calibrate the screen to multiple color curves which I can save and then switch between them easily. For example one for video and one for print matching when I am using Photoshop. The resolution is 2560X1440 so you can imagine the great definition I get in both Photoshop and Lightroom. Not cheap but it does come with a 4 year warranty. This has got to be the nicest monitor I have ever seen much less owned.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
Professional Imaging monitor. This thing has a super deep menu. Purchased this to be on par with my coworkers apple screen. Its not a glossy display, just an incredibly high resolution flat screen lcd. The first thing that struck me was the range of color and luminosity. Using various calibrators, it is quite easy to get this thing dialed in. You will not be disappointed here.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
This is my first profesional grade monitor for photo editing and I am quite pleased with the performance of this unit, so much so I am almost sorry I did not hold out for the 30" model for the extra money.
Overall this monitor is of very good build quality and I like the built in KVM aspect since I do have more than one computer.
The only thig I can pick on is the USB functionality. If I turn the monitor off while leaving my computer on and then power up the monitor again later there is a 50% chance that the keyboard will not work while the mouse does. When this happens I just reboot the pc so the monitor is powered up first and there is no issue. This is a minor thing and I guess if I am going to be away for just a little while I should just let the monitor go into sleep/eco mode from inactivity which works fine.
I contacted NEC service about this and they said they are aware of the USB hub issue and are working on some kind of firmware upgrade or something. I doubt this to be true since this monitor has been produced for almost 2 years and I am sure that I am not the fist person who has experienced this glitch so if some kind of 'firmware' has not been relased to correct this by now then I doubt it will be.
All in all dont let my USB issue keep you from choosing this monitor, it is a stellar display and I would buy it again (or it's 30" big brother).

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
I finally purchased the NEC PA271 after many weeks of research and naturally reading reviews. I have to say it's a superb display!
I use it in-studio and home for photo editing both commercial and wedding photography - what I can say is that it surpasses any LED display and holds up to the even more expensive branded LCD's that I have previously worked on (prefer not to mention brands but they are market leaders).
What's great about the NEC is
1) price, for the price and size and quality this display is excellent.
2) Image quality and color, out of the box the factory default is honestly too bright and contrasty - I believe you WILL have to calibrate it. I used the Spyder3 Elite and in combination with the controls of the monitor I have achieved a GREAT neutral gray and temperature along with contrast and brightness that matches the ambient lighting in the editing room.
3) Build, this is one solid display - great height and angle options in adjustability.
I can't say that I have any negatives or cons, I really don't.
Some have griped about the lack of instructions etc. I found this somewhat amusing- I didn't even bother with the manual or instructions. How hard can it be to attach DVI / USB cables and how hard can it possibly be to access the monitors menu items ? I leave it at that.
Over all the price with build quality and most of all image and color quality of this display is an easy buy, and now I see why even top color management experts out there have it listed as the "go to" LCD.
I highly recommend this LCD and I do have it running on a 2010 MacPro with the ATI-5870 via DVI. No issues at all.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
I have a photography studio with 4 workstations. I cannot afford an EIZO for each, this is a nice compromise. Although the 97% AdobeRGB colorspace is rather wishful thinking, the display can be used for color accurate work like retouching.
One thing you are not being told is that you will need the Spectra View II software in order to calibrate this Display. This is not abnormal, every manufacturer has their own calibrating software to work with their own LUT tables, but it's another $150 in case you are counting.

Have had this monitor for about 3 weeks. This is One Great LCD Screen. I will admit I have never been a fan of LCD minitors and always have used large screen Pro CRT screens. This monitor has changed my mind.[...] No dead pixels, easy set up, solid build, solid adjustable stand, and Great Color.I use this for critical Photoshop work as well as everyday computing and games. Even running the old Win 98 Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator the screen does a good job of displaying the lower resolution graphics. If you have the bucks and are looking at this monitor BUY IT. It will not disappoint in any way. The 27" size is just about perfect and the 2560 X 1440 resolution is a nice match for the GTX 580 video card.

Great color rendition, good full size monitor and sharp, clear and full featured. The only thing I did not expect was the necessity of using the provided DVI cable. The provided cable uses the full array of pins so you will have to replace your existing cable with the one from the box (no problem, though, it is long enough for most applications).

This is an upgrade from the also excellent NEC PA241W (in the interest of more real estate and higher resolution). Delivers the same stellar performance, but more of it. Used for digital photo editing it delivers an amazing range of color and contrast, combined with the unbelievable SpectraView II calibration software to ensure I'm working in an accurate environment. Wouldn't hesitate recommending this or the PA241W to anyone who is serious about their photography and editing.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
What's great:
1. Nice big canvas
2. Raises and lowers quite a ways
3. Dual inputs, including dual usb uplink
4. Quality color for a decent price
What't not so great:
1. I wish it was 16x10, not 16x9.
2. If you have an eizo eye-1, prepare to work a little to get accurate color.
3. A couple more usb ports would be nice, but it's not a huge deal.
How I use it:
Maya and after effects on the PC, Photoshop on the Mac. Both through the same monitor.
Ideal for people needing accurate color (photographers, visual effects artists, video editors) but don't want to drop the extra money on an Eizo.
