A cooler form factor than the pleasantly bulky D2+ I treasure, it seems to have everything the D2+ has -except a hole to attach it to a cord around the neck. This means its recording usefulness is limited to laying it on the table, indiscreetly. Otherwise, it provides the same unbeatable audiophile sound quality for those with golden ears lost in iPod land who need rescue. Yes its a trick but so what - the ears never tire, and any quality level phones can be accomodated with enough power. This thing makes even cheapo phones sound satisfactory, and good phones sound great. The software is as inscrutable as written Korean and can madden with hiding obvious things, but for this sound quality, it's worth the trouble of reading the manual. The touchscreen is unscratchable glass, works like an iPad, perfectly. Visually brilliant. No complaints except it has to be carried in a shirt pocket, instead of conveniently from the neck. How does Cowon do it? Best kept secret in MP3 land (also does most all other formats, certainly WMAs). These things are priceless. They provide closer access to my music than my zillion dollar hifi ever did. Best phones to use? Prob the rosewood Audio Technicas. Last thing to mention - have to note Cowon support typically pretty slow to respond, tho they do the job.

This is my third Cowon player and it is probably the most modern one. It seems to have a slightly more evolved interface than the X7, which I also have. It has enough effect to power my heavy Beier Dynamics headphones which other players in the class not always do.

The J3 is a very nice dap with no apparent flaws. The screen looks very good, vibrant and crisp. The output levels are high and it can drive semi demanding headphones with little problem. It is not as good as the Colorfly CK4 in terms of sound quality, but it is just jam packed with so many features you can get lost very easily ( in a good way) The EQ presets are wonderful and let you tweak them to your liking in ways pretty much no other media player allows. Just an amazing player, I can't find a single fault with it.

This is the second Cowon device I've owned. But, the first touch screen device by them. I like the layout. And have found it to be easy to navigate through. One of the features I have always liked is the ability to record FM with their devices. I use this feature for recording lectures that are transmitted over a short distance FM transmitter. And I have not been able to find any CURRENT devices that can do the job or do it as well.

Music playback. I know I don't have to worry about whether or not it will play what I have. I use more than one format for my music and Cowon has always kept their devices open in playing the major formats INCLUDING the not so well known or used formats. OGG's for example. Can't find too many devices that can play those.

So for what I use this device for, it gets 5 stars.

Nicest MP3 player I've ever bought. There are no software downloads or music conversions needed to be done. Just drag-and-drop your favorite music into the MP3 player drive. The battery life of this player is impressively long at music 64 - hours and video - 11 hours. The player works on Windows 7, Mac, and Linux operating systems. It is best to read the PDF manual rather than the small quick start manual because the PDF file is more comprehensive. Some of my favorite options on the player is that I can input my own background picture and also make grocery list recordings. I highly recommend this MP3 player and thank B & H for offering this incredible buy.

The sound on the J3 is outstanding...better than any other I've listed to. The user-interface isn't my favorite, however. I think that all the items on the screen are too small for my big fingers and I unintentionally push buttons often. The battery life is superb and I love that I can drag and drop music and create my own folders...no syncing! I have only had the player for about a month and for some reason I have had to reset it twice...not sure why

I had the Cowon D2 and loved it. I didn't think Cowon could out do themselves. I was clearly wrong. The J3 is better in every way. The screen size could be better, but that is less of a con and more me nit-picking. The screen is however a gorgeous AMOLED screen. Battery life is fantastic, but that is something Cowon is known for. Audio quality is stellar as usual, and it can drive most headphones without much problem. I barely use the touch screen, because the tactile buttons are that good. I really couldn't have asked for more with this player.

I have been following Cowon products since they came out with their first product and I have always read good things but was wary about shelling out so much on an mp3 player. I had also heard not so good things about Cowon's GUI.I finally decided to take that plunge and went for J3 after I read about people being happy with its GUI too. Below are the pros & cons from MY PERSPECTIVE.Pros:-It plays lossy formats (mp3,ogg,aac) the best, no other mp3 players can come close to it (you have to turn on the JetEffect to use it to its full potential). Even 128Kbps ones sound great-It's very sleek looking and the AMOLED screen is amazing, pictures look gorgeous on it.- Battery power is amazing, I left it on for 12 hrs on audio (for headphone burn-in) and it still showed full battery, but after playing with the GUI , it dropped a little (of course, display consumes more power)- BBE is amazing, BBE Headphone gives it a fuller volume, BBEMach3Bass is so good for trance/hip hop, you can play around with lot of other options, but I only use these two. BBE VivA requires the volume to be louder , BBE MP did not really improve the quality although they claim to add higher harmonics that are lost in mp3 formats- It plays almost all formats known to man and on all platforms (Mac,Windows,Linux). I have linux and windows which works great.-speakers , i find it convenient sometimes esp. if I listen to radio (npr) where quality of sound is not that important and I want to give my ears and headphones some rest (I have Audio-Technica M50 which can get uncomfortable after few hours of wearing)-SD slot : extra memory is always an added benefit.Cons:- It doesn't have Apps which I really didnt care because I bought it purely for music listening. But some people might find it a problem.- Touchscreen is good but not as good as ipod touch. It's also slightly thicker than the ipod touch- the SD slot is sometimes hard to open.- There's not much benefit in WAV format, it sounds the same as it would in Sony , Sandisk or Ipod. At least I couldn't notice any large difference as I could for mp3 format. (Not sure if it's a CON really!)All in all, I'm happy with the player esp. since I use MP3 formats the most due to its small size and I'm no audiophile and cannot detect higher(>15Khz) frequencies. Remember, your music is as good as your weakest link in your audio system, so in an ideal condition, you would require:1) Best Audio source: Uncompressed(lossless) audio files 2) Audio players that dont introduce additional noise in its circuitry(like hiss and other EMIs,high S/N) and outputs exactly what it gets at its input3) (Optional) Headphone Amp , I won't write about it, you can google it for more info3) Quality Headphones with burn-ins for dynamic drivers. For J3, 16 ohm headphones will give you maximum power but check other aspects like bass,mid-range and high frequency responsesLast but not the least, [...]Good Luck in your search , hope you are happy with your buy. -R

Nice player but it has some issues. The unit has locked up several times and sometimes gets "stuck" (like after watching a slideshow). But overall, very good player.

Excellent DEDICATED audio player [...].This is pretty much a dedicated audio player, not a handheld computer like the ipod touch or anything. You use it to listen to music and watch videos and it does that extremely well. The output is strong enough to power most headphones without an amp, and with decent headphones you can really here the difference between this and an ipod. The jet audio effects/eq really work great as well. I wouldn't recommend this if you are not really into sound quality, or you're the kind of person who uses the headphones that come with players/skullcandy stuff. Don't get it if you want apps, widgets, etc, even the picture viewer on this fails. Purely for music though, you really can't beat this player. The battery life is phenomenal and the tactile buttons on the side make it a snap to skip/play/pause in your pocket. Only downside is that the interface takes a little getting used to, it's rather annoying to organize all your tags/album art, and the picture viewer software is poorly designed...

this media player has great sound quality, however, in order to reach it, one should buy a decent headphone. the video quality is good to. I recommend updating the firmwire because the plyer runs more smoothly after that.
