Whether capturing images in the studio or on location, the Pearstone FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Photography unplugged - shooters can interact with a model, view the scene or set from alternate angles, or set a camera by a stream to capture an image of a bear hunting while you remain at a safe distance away - all this and more without missing a beat, a shot, or a moment. This particular FreeWave unit is compatible with cameras with a 10-pin connection, i.e. Nikon D1, D2, D3 series and Fuji S3 and S5 DSLRs.
This versatile shutter release features Smart Code technology which allows it to be configured to operate on up to 16 million possible radio channels. You can easily switch channels to "zero in" on a frequency that provides optimal range and functionality.
The FreeWave operates with radio frequency (RF) technology, therefore a direct line of sight is not necessary; radio waves pass through objects such as windows and walls. It is unlike other wireless remotes on the market that operate on an Infrared (IR) system and require a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver to make things work.
Since touching the camera even lightly while capturing an image can create a blurred image, the FreeWave eliminates this by tripping the shutter without any disturbances. This is critical when photographing subjects close up, and for long-exposures and macros. It is also extremely valuable when photographing nature, wildlife and other subjects that are difficult for you to get close to.

Okay, I've seen some complaints about how this thing won't work at 'maximum ideal' range which I suppose might cause some issues for extreme remote wildlife users but so far I haven't had occasion to work at 100-150 feet. I purchased this to replace a Nikon IR remote which I bought for $150++ and which I discovered only worked about 30% of the time under ideal conditions. That's the first really BAD item I've seen with the Nikon brand; it always chose not to work when I needed it most...
This Pearstone unit has been perfect so far at ranges up to 50-75ft and in industrial settings with lots of EM 'noise' and other interference. Also good for the 'group' shots I get tapped to do when I have to be part of the 'group'; no running to get into the shot with a delay timer and no 'peeking' out around folks with the stupid Nikon controller in hand trying to 'point at' their receiver. Works every time!

This wireless remote was acquired for
the specified capability of functioning at
a range of 100 meters. Wildlife photography
was the objective. The system functioned perfectly when indoors at ranges up to 20 ft. When tested outdoors at the local soccer field and attempting all possible configurations,
the maximum range achieved was never more Than

Comments about Pearstone FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon w/10-Pin Connection:
I have a Nikon D300 and D700 and it works perfectly for everything I have needed it to so far. In low light and portrait photography, especially a family reunion where I had to be in the picture, it was easy to set up my camera, turn on the remote and stand back and start shooting away with just a click on the remote. And it beats the name brand versions by hundreds of dollars.

Using this with a Nikon D700. Works as advertised and is a great accessory when shooting landscapes (on a tripod) or groups of folks at parties. Just hand them the transmitter and they automatically know how to pose and smile!

Comments about Pearstone FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon w/10-Pin Connection:
I've used this product for making landscape photographs with exposures ranging from 1/40s to a few minutes. The best thing about this product is its portability: the remote, sans extended antenna, is about the width of a bank's ATM receipt in length while the shoemount device is even smaller. That being said, it can fit into just about any photographer's camera bag. Also, both components are lightweight but not excessively so, where one might begin to question the build quality. Within close distances (~2-3 meters), the remote shutter release has yet to fail me when it's wired into my d300s with the included 10-pin connector. So thus far, it's been a great experience and a solid addition to my gear bag.

I tried "cheap" remotes that failed from the get go. I wish I had bought the FreeWave years ago.

Love it. It worked exactly as promised. Very simple to use and the range was great. The only issue I have now, is when I do family photographs, I have to get everyone to look at the camera, not at me!

This product works great for indoor or outdoor portrait shots with the family!
Also great to just setup as you are interacting with the subject to just shoot away for candids.
I will try it with some macro and landscape shots. Also will try HDR style shots.

Since I do a lot of macro photography (flowers with bugs on them etc.), being able to use this device from inside my house will allow me to get photos that I otherwise would not be able to get. Also, great for group photos when I am in them.

Just received, and only used a couple of times, but so far very impressed. Construction, packaging and instructions first class. Easy to use and far more useful than IR/line-of-sight alternatives. Considerably less expensive than other "radio" devices.

Comments about Pearstone FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon w/10-Pin Connection:
Easy to setup the unique code (no dip switches to set) and works exactly as described. I have not tested the range of this device, but in truth I don't really care as I will use this within a few feet of the camera, mostly for macro photography. Have not had it long enough to comment on reliability, but it seems well made for the price.
The instruction book is a plus. A friend has a different brand of remote shutter release that has just a one page set of "instructions" obviously translated from a foreign language (Chinese?) that is total gibberish.

A very useful add on for low light photography. I used this with Nikon D-7000 (unfortunately, the default cable doesn't support the same and you have to buy the add-on DC2 cable ... so be sure to check the compatible connector cable) and I have to admit that it is impressive. The connector that plugs into the GPS port was a little too tight, but otherwise there are no complaints at all.

Problem: I needed to get photos of our senior minister preaching for use in the new church directory. He had already told me that he would be nervous if I was moving about and shooting during the sermon.
Solution: The FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release. I mounted my Nikon 300S with a 200mm, f 2.8 lens on a tripod at the back of the sanctuary and attached the Free Wave Remove. I pre set the shot and focus before the service began.( No Flash ) Then, I joined the church choir to sing in the morning worship service. During the sermon, I was using the remote to click away from my seat behind the pastor. Got some really great shots and he never knew that he was being photographed. Problem solved.
