The Pearstone Infrared Remote Control is a compact and easy-to-use remote switch with a 15' (5 m) range for Nikon digital cameras that support infrared triggering. All you have to do to make it work is to set your camera (in the menu) to accept remote triggering, then aim the remote at the infrared (IR) sensor on your camera.
The IR-N1 enables you to capture images without touching the camera, thus reducing image blurring and allowing you to concentrate on other things, i.e. interacting with your baby to capture a once-in-a lifetime expression or a fleeting moment.

I shoot mostly landscapes. Although the receiver on my D-80 is on the front, I can fire the remote from the side (out of view of all but very wide angle lenses) and it works fine. As it is very new to me, I don't know how long the battery will last, but first impressions are excellent. Much more handy than a cable release. And how far wrong can you go for the price?

I used to have a Nikon ML-L3 remote. After many uses, the big button has started to show wear. There is now a crack on the plastic. I have had it for about a decade, though, so no complaints here.
This Pearstone remote is a little larger than the Nikon. Otherwise, the function is the same - 1 simple button, 1 direct response from the camera.

Comments about Pearstone IR-N1 Infrared Remote Control for Nikon Digital Cameras:
I bought this remote two weeks ago and it works just fine with my Nikon D40X.
The remote takes pictures in 'bulb' mode which is the main feature I really wanted.
It works with auto-focus but it's kind of awkward because you have to press the button halfway down really lightly (haven't perfected that yet but it does work).
Also... the price is right!

Comments about Pearstone IR-N1 Infrared Remote Control for Nikon Digital Cameras:
I am using this with a Nikon D7000. The remote release has three modes on the D7000 - press to release the shutter, press and the shutter releases after 2 sec and Mirror Up. In the last mode first press moves the mirror up and the second press releases the shutter. I have found that with this remote the operation in the last mode (Mirror pre-release) is inconsistent. The Nikon ML-L3 works fine in all the three modes. Could have given 5 stars except for this.

Comments about Pearstone IR-N1 Infrared Remote Control for Nikon Digital Cameras:
I wanted a remote control for those tricky tripod shots where manually triggering the camera would result in camera shake. The infrared control works perfectly well, and while I find it fiddly to use, I suspect that is more the camera and its settings (Nikon D5000).
However, at the price, I can't really complain!

As a casual photographer, sometimes I don't want a ton of bells and whistles. I just want a device to do one thing well and this one delivers. I use it with my Nikon D70s.

This remote is great. It is effective from a range I never imagined. The price was great. B&H is charging more than half of what [...] is charging.

My old remote, a Nikon ML-L3, we trigger from about 10 feet. The Pearstone for Nikon will trigger from over 30 feet. It will also trigger from the back of my D90. Also, the price is great from B&H.
