I purchased this media player as a replacement for my Roku player that stopped streaming Netflix movies (some sort of glitch that no-one could figure out, so I gave up on it).
So, to compare it with the Roku...
They both stream Netflix videos, although only the Roku allows you to modify your queue directly.
The FreeAgent GoFlex allows you to connect to Youtube and other video sites (but I haven't played around with these much so I can't testify to the utility of them).
Perhaps, the best part of the FreeAgent GoFlex is that you can attach external hard drives to the unit and play any digitized movies that you may own directly onto your t.v.. I've tried several different formats and they've all worked. So if you want to save space and don't mind a lower quality, you can convert your movies to other more space friendly formats and still be able to play them (something I couldn't get my Iomega ScreenPlay to do).
One downside is that it doesn't have a built in wireless connection (you have to buy the wireless adapter-11N WI-FI ADAPTER by Seagate). The wireless adapter uses the only USB port, so you might have to swap out devices depending on if you want to stream movies or watch them from your hard drive.
The other issue I have is that the unit isn't responsive to the remote. There is a second or two delay in you selecting a function and the function executing. I've since learned to be patient with it, but I did lock it up once or twice by idiotically pressing mad combinations of buttons thinking that the unit wasn't working.
All-in-all, I really like it even though I haven't played with all the bells or whistles. At least it works, which is far more than I can say about my Roku device which is now just sitting alone and gathering dust.

I used this product for backup and file transfer. It works. But that is the only good thing I can say about it. I don't mind that it is slow. However, when I wanted to transfer files to my new computer, the product's user interface could not find certain files that it had already backed up on its own drive. I had to use other techniques to transfer certain files. Also, whenever I start up my new computer, the product's software pops up a window asking me if I want to update its software and it doesn't give me an option to say "do not ask again". In short, the user interface needs to be improved, and this annoying pop up message should be removed. The promotional video about this product was much better than the product itself. I do not recommend this product. If the manufacturer makes these improvements, this would be a good product.

Comments about Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-Portable Hard Drive (Black):
The seagate free agent go flex ultra portable drive 500 gb was perfect for backing up the info on my laptop. It was extremely easy to install - i just plugged it into the computer and it did all the work - there was nothing difficult about it. It was quick and simple to use. Keep in mind this does not back up everything (such as your favorites, operating system, email) If you want to back up your entire system then you need to get the seagate free agent go flex upgrade cable auto backup. This part clicks into the seagate hard drive. By having both pieces your entire computer will be backed up and this gives me a lot of peace of mind. My mom recently spilled coffee on her computer keyboard and did not have a continuous backup hard drive (like the seagate) and it was a mess! Not only did she lose everything that was not backed up manually but when she went to load her new computer it was very difficult and inconvenient. If she had a seagate (which she does now!) not only would everything be getting backed up continuously 24/7 but in the event of a computer crash it would be easy to just plug the seagate into your new computer and it would just automatically download everything that was on your old computer onto your new computer. Also, the customer service for seagate is excellent and very helpful. There was another hard drive I was thinking about buying but I could never get through to the customer service to ask them if it backed up my whole system. Seagate has the whole package. An excellent product and excellent customer service. I highly recommend this product!

I had reached about 3/4 of the capacity of the hard-drive of my MacBookPro,mostly pictures stored on iPhoto. I had looked at other drives, and decided that the one I chose must be pre-formatted for Mac, and should have Firewire connection.[...] I realized that the Firewire was optional because my older computer only had Firewire 400 and would not increase the up load speed more than about 30%.So I decided to Gp ahead with the cheapest USB, until i ofund this one: INEXPENSIVE, PC OR MAC READY, USB 3.0 ready.
