My FS has been running flawlessly for over a year, so I am surprised to see Billy's comments. I do agree that the FS is not the model to buy for video editing - Drobo recommends the Drobo S.
I use the FS to consolidate media, Time Machine backups of all our Macs, and to stream media (including HD) to mobile devices and throughout my house. For my needs the FS is perfect. When I do need to edit video, I either use the drive in my Mac or a 10K external drive I have.
The BeyondRAID is simply amazing. The ability to use any drive and continually update by adding drives or replacing smaller drives is a game changer for anyone who is tired of outgrowing storage devices and migrating data. I purchased the FS with 3 x 1TB drives and have since added 2 more 1TB drives. When that fills up, rather than migrate to another device, I simply replace a few of the 1TB drives with 2TB or 3TB drives. Very, very cool.
For anyone that is tired of dealing with flaky RAID devices, you are doing yourself a disservice by not checking out a Drobo.

Anyone who uses a 4-bay for video editing is out of their mind, that's what the "S" is for. The 4-bay is super for Time Machine backup, photo & MP3 storage, and (and this is the point) NEVER losing your data. Plus, it'll even work with any drive you throw in (though Drobo support says it does work better with 7200 RPM drives). Great product!
I have had two Drobos, and both never lost my data, that being said, I have had many times when they do not boot when the computer boots up, and would not recommend working off of them (for movie editing for example). I think one drive in mine starts a little slower then the rest, and it causes the drobo to reboot at times, which programs do not like when they are working with the data.
