Comments about Elinchrom EL Skyport USB RX SPEED Transceiver:
I ordered the standard USB transceiver but received this item, the SPEED version. I am assuming I caught them in the changeover.
The good: Full control of every monolight function individually from your computer. Is there really more to say? You get a little image of the back of your Style RX lights and click them just like you press a button. You can also set adjustment increments to any setting from .1 to a full stop at a time. The fact there you can adjust every light one at at time or in groups is far better than the blind group-only method using the transmitter.
The bad: sketchy beyond belief on Windows 7 with the software version 2.0 driver. I know this is an older software/driver design but thankfully, the version 3.0 beta (from Elinchrom's site) ships with a new driver for Windows and is more reliable. On my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6, no major issues with either version of the software (still uses the version 2.0 driver). This could possibly be an issue because mine is the SPEED version of the transceiver and the version 2.0 driver was designed for the older style.
With the OS X combination, the signal drops down a bit on occasion but there hasn't been a total loss of communication as with the version 2.0 driver/software on Windows 7. It would go out and not come back until I unplugged the transceiver and plugged it back in.
