Elinchrom Skyport Universal SPEED Set
With the Elinchrom Skyport Universal SPEED Set, you'll be able to use one the world's smallest remote control systems (Elinchrom Skyport) to control just about any commercial flash unit--the included Universal SPEED Receiver is compatible with older Elinchrom units and any other flash brand, using the included sync cables and adapters to connect to any flash with a 3.5mm socket.
The SPEED Transmitter controls basic functions of Elinchrom BXRI 250/500, Ranger Quadra and D-Lite-it with the built-in ELS Receiver and Elinchrom RX units to which a Transceiver RX (not included) is attached, as well as basic functions of other flash units with the Universal SPEED receiver. To control all RX functions of Style RX, Ranger RX, Ranger Quadra RX (only Ranger Quadra RX with serial numbers from 4001 onwards) and Digital RX from a computer, the USB Transceiver RX 19354/19348 (not included) and the latest EL Skyport software (not included) are required. The SPEED transmitter comes with a Lithium battery (CR 2430) and a sync cable 2.5mm-PC.

First off, let me state that I have been a professional portrait photographer since 1981 and studio owner.
I came from using Pocket Wizards at another studio and didn't want to spend alot of money on a set of slaves for using on location. I had several peers that use skyports, and decided to try them out. However, until I got comfortable using the skyports, I found myself using a pc cable. Also they do not keep a charge too well in cold weather. The instructions were very basic.
Other than that, these units work great. Despite my original mishaps, I will probably purchase another set in the near future.

I would go lower on the rating, but the transmitter is such a wonderful piece of equipment. The receiver is a rechargable battery, which is nice, but it doesn't hold a charge for more than 150 pops or so. I may have a faulty battery, but when you're in the studio shooting away it is sure an inconvenience to have this fail midway through a shoot. Just a thought. Otherwise, I love Elinchrom. Can't go wrong, but have a sync cord backup.

The first set I received the receiver did not work. I returned it to BH and they sent out another set. So far so good with this set. I been using this on location to fire some SB600's in small softboxes and umbrellas for portrait work. Both the receiver and transmitter are small and very lightweight. My set came with a cool case to carry them in. The instructions are somewhat obtruse, the english reads weird but you will figure it out. Simple to use, I would recommend this to others.

I use this set on my D-Lite 4 set and it was sooo great to get rid of the cable! I have yet to run out of range with these things and with about 1000 shots I prob had 2 where the flash didn't work? Their compactness and quality of manufacture are impressive, but I wish the receivers used replaceable instead of rechargeable batteries. I will definitely be ordering more receivers for my other packs!

I sold the previous version of this product because I wasn't happy with how easily the transmitter would fall off the hotshoe of the camera. The receivers were all too easily turned on when being stored in it's carrying case or my bag.
Since I have started using the new set I am now a happy camper. The build quality on the new set feels more solid and overall a better construct. I shoot a lot of weddings and having the trigger secured on the camera is highly important to me. I haven't tested the range as yet so I wouldn't score a five and I would love to have a transmitter with a solid hotshoe on top.

Nice size and lightweight. I find the PocketWizard towering off the top of my camera to be in the way and annoying. For work in a NY sized studio, it does the job.

I have gone wireless with my Elinchrom lights. Cables were a hassle but the Skyport makes studio work much easier and allows you to focus more on the photography. These products are versatile and reliable. I haven't experienced any misfires. They are small and lightweight and a good value. You can set it to individual groups and turn them on and off as you need. The transmitter fits right onto the hotshoe and the receivers come with a small strap that I just put around a knob on the lightstand and let it hang there. No need for velcro.
