Contour Design Shuttle-Xpress NLE Multimedia Controller (Black)
Add frame by frame control to your existing NLE system with the Shuttle-Xpress NLE Multimedia Controller from Contour. Cross-platform and pre-configured for most NLE editing software applications, the Shuttle-Xpress features 5 fully programmable buttons to customize for your most frequently used editing commands. You can also monitor which program you are in to adjust your programmed commands accordingly.
The jog, located in the center, is alloy and can be turned forward and backward 360 degrees for frame by frame control. The Shuttle ring is rubberized and spring-loaded, which will perform fast forward and rewind in varying speeds depending on how far it is turned.

I use this for video editing, and it makes things go a lot faster. I can be programmed to do any key combination you want, so you don't have to look around for different buttons.
I wish the software was more flexible.

There was a time when rotary controllers like this cost many hundreds of dollars and were only found in the best sorts of broadcast equipment. The look, the feel, and the function of this unit are great. It is so small and compact that it is essentially portable. This is one of the better buys I've made.

I bought this to use under Linux (specifically with Kdenlive). There are a few hoops to jump through to get it working on Linux, but it only took me about 5 minutes to get it running.
The shuttle-xpress has a great feel to it, the size fits well under my hand and moving between the buttons and wheels is fast. The base has little rubber feet and it stays put well on my desk without slipping.
The spring-loaded jog wheel feels great, and the shuttle in the middle works smoothly. My only complaint is that my fingertip occasionally slips out of the indentation on the middle wheel, but only when I'm going really fast.
Overall, a solid product at a very reasonable price.

I really enjoy using this controller with Edius 6. It has a default setting for Edius, and many other NLE's, but it also allows you to configure the controls as you wish.I use this at work as a reporter and editor for a TV station. The controller gives you precise control over the timeline - the inner wheel offers a helpful frame-by-frame advance. I can also set in and out points easily. I prefer this controller compared to the Edius keyboard.Honestly, I'm surprised it only costs [$] It's a good value.

I use this only for scrolling - and for marking in-points quickly... so I'm not a power user of all the buttons. That said... the shuttle controller ROCKS for editing! I couldn't imagine doing what I'm doing without it!
