Vello BG-C2 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 5D Mark II
The Vello BG-C2 is a battery grip designed for use specifically with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera. It accepts up to 2 LP-E6 batteries to effectively double the camera's battery life. The included AA battery holder allows you to use 6 AA batteries for added convenience. The BG-C2 offers an alternate shutter release button, AF start button, AF point selection, AE lock/FE lock button, multi function button, and main dial to facilitate shooting in a vertical orientation.

Installed 6 brand new AA batts - it worked fine at first - but then entire camera would go dead. I "slapped" the camera body a couple of times - and the camera and drive began working for 4-5 shots, but then went dead again. Checked to make sure grip was screwed in all the way - it was - but unmounted then remounted grip again - got 4-5 shots off - then went dead again. It's on its way back to B&H for refund !

Definitely has a plastic feel. Then again what do you expect for a fraction of the cost of the original. I'm torn if I should keep it or not. Boxing and stuff is professional and not a cheap Chinese knock-off. But still a bit too plastically for me. I'm leaning at 80% keeping it.

grip works perfect.... smooth... flawless.... only one thing... doesn't fit my RRS L plate.... had to return it and get a canon brand.... but if you don't use an L plate... this is perfect for the money...

I take quite a few portrait oriented photos so having a battery grip with an additional shutter button is a real plus. I have found the Velo grip to provide all the functionality I equate with the Canon product (I use the Canon model with my 50D) and the quality is somewhat close to Canon, but at a remarkably lower price point. Time will tell if it is as rugged as my older Canon grip but it works quite well thus far.

Quick and easy switch between horizontal and vertical shots. Holds two Canon batteries, plus allows use of AA's if wanted. Makes the camera balanced better, and easier to use in the field. This works very well with either of my large Bogen tripods. Would not suggest trying to use on light inexpensive tripods. . .this is a heavy combined unit (which is a good thing).

The price of this product makes it an easy introduction into the world of battery grips. It certainly does its job of greatly increasing the battery life of my camera, which is great for long shoots such as weddings.
But the half-press autofocus option when shooting vertically is not as crisp as I had hoped for. The actual button works great, but the camera is often slow to respond and sometimes does not autofocus at all when I use this method.
Great for those who don't mind taking a little longer when using auto-focus, or those who shoot in manual focus-- and also those getting into videography, where batteries are drained at a much faster rate than in a photoshoot.
But if you are a professional photographer who needs quick, 100% reliable vertical autofocus from a grip; shell out the extra for the Canon. You will save yourself loads of frustration!

I found the box and packaging to be promising. I opened it and it looked great in comparison to my own 30D's Zeikos grip. I like that it has grip on the battery door. But the battery door is the only problem. Maybe mine is just a weird copy but the door wobbles around a bit. Without batteries is much worse than with them. With them in it's not that noticeable. So I'll manage. It shows both the batteries lives so I'm content for 160 off the Canon grip's pricetag. wish i could tighten the door :/

my goal was mainly to have a good grip and some extra battery power on hand. the fact that it also comes with most controls was a bonus in my book. just for kicks Im parking my canon batteries and using the magazine that holds 6 AA alkaline batteries. yet another feature I consider a bonus.
only gripe about the grip is that my old canon padded hand strap really only has one attachment point (I use the camera strap as the anchor for the other side. love being able to grip and have the added confidence with the little hand strap again.
all in all a no-brainer at this price. looks great; quality seems quite high.

Best bang for the buck out there.
Has all the features of the Canon version but at a fraction of the price.
Very sturdy.
No name on the front either to detract from the look, just a descreet nameplate on the bottom showing the name of the manufacturer.
