I purchased this for my Nikon D60, and wow, am I impressed. The plastic matches the camera exactly, and attaches seamlessly. It lines up perfectly, and gives all of the feature you would have without it, i.e. tripod socket, and battery power. I average 4 fps shooting with this grip on, with both batteries at about half charge. I am extremely happy with the way it fits onto the camera.
The grip part on the battery grip is very high quality material, it is firm to the touch, but holds to your hand nicely. It makes the camera so much more comfortable to hold.
As of now I am a bit skeptical on the usability of the vertical shutter button. If you're taking numerous pictures, you won't have time to switch back and forth between the settings that allow you to use it. However, if you are in no rush, then plopping it on a tripod or holding it in your hand, the vertical shutter can be justified. This is why I gave the 4 stars.
The grip is overall made of high quality material, doesn't feel flimsy, doesn't feel like it is going to break, it feels solid, and overall a great grip!
Best grip out there for lower range Nikon dSLRs.

The grip feels very plastic but, does improve the handling of my D5000 by making it slightly taller. Do not expect shutter to work as a D300 or better grip as, you will need to put your D5000 on the infra red mode like if you were using the ML-L3 remote to shot sideways and bring it back to normal shutter to shoot in the horizontal... a plus side is that both batteries are within the grip so, no need to remove the grip to recharge as I need to do with my other Nikons

Comments about Vello BG-N3 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D5000:
I bought the grip as a gift for my husband who takes pictures of our daughter during dance competitions. He is thoroughtly pleased with the results. The battery grip allowed him to achieve greater shutter speed. I'm happy with the great photos he was able to capture. We now have more shots to select from in building a dance portfolio.

Comments about Vello BG-N3 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D5000:
Easy to unbox and install.
Good: It make the camera it's attached to easier to handle. And, perhaps most conveniently, it can hold two batteries, which allows for all-day shooting.
Bad: The battery compartment door is really flimsy, and the clips that hold the batteries in aren't very strong. On the Nikon D60, I have to tell the camera to use the IR trigger. And, if I must nitpick, the slot that holds the battery door from the camera itself doesn't hold the door very nicely.
Overall: I would recommend this product to anybody on the grounds that it holds two batteries and it improves the handling of the camera overall. That said, the vertical shooting feature is pretty much useless unless you want to do all of your shooting vertical.

This battery grip is essential for any photographer. It allows you the additional battery life to not get caught with a dead battery taking the best picture. Fits well on my camera (D40x). Def recommend!

Purchased for my d3000. The battery door is a little flimsy but it has not popped open. Shutter buttons works thru the cameras IR function. Change shutter release to remote IR and you can use the camera vertical with the battery packs shutter button. Adds a nice heft to the camera that makes it feel balanced in my hands.

I added this battery grip to my Nikon D3000 for better hand control of the camera, and got the added benifit of an extra battery. The battery grip really helps me hold onto the camera.
Having the extra battery really increases your shoot time. I purchased a couple of extra batteries to give me the freedom to go all day shooting without worring about charging the batteries.
If you have large hands or just are having trouble holding your camera steady, the battery grip will make a difference.
I have not had any problems with my battery grip.

Comments about Vello BG-N3 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D5000:
Not a bad grip. I mainly bought this to extend battery life, the vertical shutter release is worthless in my opinion. However, that is fine with me, I understood how it worked before I purchased it. I have two main disappointments. Firstly, the rubber portion of the grip began to peel off a little around the edges. This was easily fixed with some super glue. Secondly, sometimes on my d3000 after placing batteries back in pack, my camera will not turn on and gives an error message. Sometimes I have to reinsert the batteries multiple times.

Just received my BG-N3 for my Nikon D3000. Fits great, feels good. Easy to set up about 3 min for me. Only issue keeping in mind the cost not the same quality as the camera so it off just a little. when shooting side shots you need to change the setting. A non issue for me. My battery fit in just right, I am only using one Battery until I buy the second one.

When i mount the battery pack and use the correct Nikon batteries the camera tells me "Use battery designated for this camera" then shuts off. I'm using the same exact batteries that ive always used but the camera doesn't like the grip.

I bought the Vello BG-N3 for my Nikon D-60, for which it is well matched. The quality of build, far exceeded my most optimistic expectations. It feels natural and well balanced in the hands. A well thought out product, (it even has built-in internal storage for the old battery cover!). I see no reason to ever take it off of my camera. Bravo. Try it, you may use your camera more often.

Comments about Vello BG-N3 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D5000:
This grip makes the D5000 handle much easier. It is much easier to balance a macro lens and hold a long lens.
Some have complained that the vertical shooting position is hard to get to work. I say----It is easy, HOLD IT TURN IT SHOOT IT. I have used motor drives since the 70s and not until the F4 did I have a vertical button. On to my F5 D700 and the rest I seldom used the vertical button shutter release, I doubt I will used this one.
However, if you want to use it just go to the IR shutter in the menu and set it then use it vertical. It is not big deal, this is a great little battery holder and it helps greatly to stabilize the camera.
Remember....HOLD IT TURN IT SHOOT IT.

I was surprised by the nice build quality of the BG-N3. I use it with my Nikon D-60, where it is never removed -(it's just so comfortable and well balanced in the hand). I was a little bothered by the slight wobble between the battery grip and the camera body. I fixed it by using very thin closed-cell, adhesive backed foam. Available at most craft stores for less than a buck. Cut narrow strips & apply to top of grip just inside the outside edge. Stay 1" away from battery "tower".It took twenty minutes. Solid as a rock, & foam is easily removed with no adhesive residue. Try it, and enjoy using this product!

Adds good balance to my d5000 and obviously extends shooting life with 2 batteries. Construction seems questionable especially around opening for batteries..... a little too loose and shaky for my liking. Unfortunately have to switch shutter release options when moving between horizontal and vertical shooting orientation.

This is an easy thing to install and easy to use! I hooked it up to my camera and i love the feel. I never take it off. The one thing is that to use the vertical shutter you have to turn the camera to a remote shutter which is not that big of an issue it I really need to use it.
