The 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive from Iomega is an external desktop drive featuring a pair of FireWire-800 ports, a USB 2.0 port, and a 3-port USB 2.0 hub! FireWire-400 is supported via an included adapter cable.
The drive features a design that is designed to match the look and feel of the original Mac mini. It can be stacked with that computer, and can also rest atop the redesigned Mac mini and Airport Extreme Base Station. It ships formatted as an HFS+ volume for use with OS X. Windows users with Mac envy can certainly use it with their systems, but they'll have to reformat it as a FAT32 or NTFS volume to do so.
Iomega provides a license for their comprehensive protection suite with the drive -- you'll have to download the actual software package from their web site. The protection suite includes Iomega QuikProtect and Trend Micro Smart Surfing for Mac. It also includes Roxio backup software and MozyHome Online backup for Mac and Windows.

Own two of these drives, 1 for Time Machine backup, 1 for media files. Both running on an iMac. Great product, very reliable. Had one for over a year, and one for about a month. No issues. Style matches the Mac styling, looks great on the desk stacked up next to my Macs. Can be considered to be quite large as far as external hard drives are concerned, but I don't travel with them, they are simply desktop storage.

I haven't been able to actually test this device for backup because although the box says it will work with OS X 10.4, the software download only works with 10.5. This was very disappointing and the possibility of having to return the product and fight over the refund is irritating. Iomega staff said, "Warranty covers the hardware but not the software." However, they should not LIE on the box.
The drive itself connected correctly and quickly.

I purchased four of these to have duplicate backups for two computers. I use one for the Time Machine back up and the other one to have a bootable carbon copy of my drive. I have had the misfortune of a hard drive crash and never want that again. Product is easy to use and sets up quickly without any problems. You plug it in to your iMac and everything works perfectly.

Comments about Iomega 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive:
This external drive complemented my Mac Mini very well as it had the same look and style as the computer. The box also included several wires to allow me to connect the drive via FireWire 400 or 800 or even USB.
Nothing bad to say about this drive at this time.

Purchased this drive for primary backup of my iMac and digital photos. So far it has performed very well. Write speeds seem very fast on firewire 800.
This sleek looking drive looks right at home with the Mac.

I use this drive for time machine and backing up photos. It's really easy to use, very affordable, and the finish matches my Imac. The only downside is it a bit noisy (relative to my Imac which doesn't seem to make any).

I've only had this HD for about 4-5 months, but so far it's working as it should. I use it exclusively for Apple Snow Leopard (10.6.x) Time Machine backup. I do manual backups as I don't need the frequent backups Time Machine does, so I don't always have it connected. But when I do its very quiet, doesn't get too hot, and works rather quickly (when compared to the WD 500GB HD). Aesthetically it looks rather nice when stacked with my AirPort. HA!

THERE IS NO FIREWIRE 400 6-PIN ON THIS MODEL AS STATED IN THE PRODUCTS PAGE.

Having Firewire 800 is a great selling point for me. For the money is about as good as you can get.

This Iomega 1TB drive in conjunction with Time Machine works quietly and efficiently. Just had to connect the FireWire cable and turn on. I hit the on switch for Time Machine and voila! total back up of my Imac hard drive.

Works like it's supposed to. A good price for this amount of storage, and all the connections. I run a further firewire unit off the second 1324b port and it works great.

Comments about Iomega 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive:
I'm an amateur photographer. I have three 1TB MiniMax drives and one 600 gig MiniMax I use for storage and backup. I use them with an iMac. Initially, I got into them because I had a Mac Mini and they were easily stackable with the CPU. I've continued to use them because I like a uniform look, and they are quiet little workhorses that are generally no trouble. I love it that every possible cable you might need is in the box. I bought my most recent 1TB MiniMax to replace one that suddenly turned read-only about two months after the 1-year warranty was up. Reformatting the drive fixed the problem, but I don't feel good about using it for anything but backup now. Warning: If you stack these drives, they run very, VERY hot -- almost too hot to touch. That can't be good for them. When not stacked, they are just fine. I don't stack mine anymore.

I got this item while it was on sale here at B&H and it has proven useful for my new iMac.
I'm a converted windows user and I found it easily to back up my Mac with this drive & Time Machine.

Non intrusive on my limited desk space. Relatively fast transfer speeds. Purchased for my immediate hard drive backup plan. Easy to use. Priced just slightly more than what I would have expected to pay in comparison to other options on the market.

Comments about Iomega 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive:
I'm using this drive to backup my MacBook Pro using Time Machine. It does a fantastic job over USB or Firewire. It's nice to be able to use the drive as a hub as well with additional ports. It's much faster than using a Time Capsule, more quiet, has plenty of space, looks attractive (I like the Mac Mini look), and small enough to slip in my notebook bag if I need to take it somewhere. Comes with all the cables I needed to connect it to my machine right out of the box! Does a great job, and I'd highly recommend it!

Comments about Iomega 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive:
This product is the perfect extension for the Mac Mini. I simply connected the usb chord and power supply then placed my mini on top. Immediately the icon appeared on my desk top & in finder. The 2 were made for each other! The Mini fits perfectly on top & vents exactly as it did on the desk top. I was concerned about heat but that is not an issue at all. The hard drive is extremely quiet. You won't even know it is there. I am a professional illustrator without much space in my work area. This products design entered seamlessly into my work space. Once you get one you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

I use this with a Macbook Pro. I needed firewire for video and audio connections.
Ihave had one for one year now and this is my second. It is a little more expensive than some others but I hope that sinceI paid the little extra premuim and the brand name is Iomega it won't crash and burn anytime soon.
I also use it with Carbon Copy Cloner for backup clones.

Easy to set up with PowerBook for file transfer but took some time to figure out how to transfer multiple files from a photo album for which I didn't want the entire thing to be transfered. Very fast transfer with FireWire800. 10GB only took about 5 min.

Comments about Iomega 1TB MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive:
I purchased 2 of these MiniMax drives for backing up my Macbook Pro. Both of these drives were recognized immediately by my Mac and accepted back-ups via Time Machine without a single glitch. Time will tell but so far both of my MiniMax drives are working flawlessly. The only thing I would like to see are longer cables. The ones supplied are a bit too short (3 feet) unless you're going to place the drives immediately next to your computer. I placed mine a little distance from my laptop and consequently had to purchase a longer Firewire cable. No big deal however.
