The Bower 4.0x Telephoto Lens is a long-telephoto add-on lens that attaches to the front of your existing lens with a 37mm filter thread. Using this "auxiliary" lens is an affordable way to expand the capabilities of your current lens and is particularly useful for unusual closeups, nature, and other subjects that are far away. With this telephoto your 100mm lens will become a 400mm.

Maybe I just need more experience with lenses, but to a newcomer the lens description on this product is deceptive.
Yes, the thread is 37mm; however, the actual aperture for the lens is only 9mm. You can't even use this lens with a Flip camcorder because the Flip can't zoom in enough to get rid of the vignette. I have a much cheaper 37mm 2x telephoto lens that has a 32mm aperture.
Additionally, to use this on camcorders like the Panasonic HDC-SDT750, the camcorder has to be zoomed in all the way. No option. I wanted this lens to be an augmentation to the existing zoom, but I didn't expect to be required to zoom in all of the way. The small aperture makes it an all or nothing deal. The 2x telephoto lens with its much larger aperture only requires minimum of 5 or 6x to remove the vignette.
That said, the SDT750 still focused well, although it took a bit longer than usual, and the zoom quality appeared to be really good with no distortion that I could see, but limiting me to a single, extreme zoom dramatically limits its practical usability.

I work as a Private Investigator [@] B&H assisted is selecting the right equipment for the job. This unit allows me to be a 1/2 + mile away with a sony camcorder w/a 68 opticalzoom now increased to 272 optical zoom w/ 8,000 didigital zoom!!! But you MUST use a tripod even egine vibration from the car will giggle the video.

I shoot a lot of animals in the back yard, and I can get some nice close ups now without disturbing
natural behavior. Vignetting occurs at the extreme
zoom and of course stabilization is desirable at longer distances. I like it for both function, price
and appearance...it's well made.
