Comments about Prompter People Ultralight iPad Teleprompter:
PRO's:
-very lightweight
-wireless control with iPhone/with software I purchased
CON's:
-no instructions
-tight fit of iPad into hardware
-covers focus and iris controls
I work on a small budget, so I used this promoter with our HDV camera, for studio and remote work.
The product came with no instructions, so it took a little while to configure hardware with our iPad and camera, plus there are parts that I still don't know how they would be used, but I got the parts I needed configured eventually with our camera and tripod.
This product does not add any weight to the tripod, so 'run-and-gun' ENG shooting is very easy.
Because of the small size, I have to push my Canon XH-G1 all the way forward so that I don't see the edges of the glass frame in my shot, so then the cloth hood that goes around the lens covers my focus and iris controls, which does slow me down a little.
The product came with no software, but I shopped around and found software that others had suggested for $14-"Teleprompt+". Works amazing easy, once you get it configured right, and I can control it via blue tooth with my iPhone. So the talent could actually hold iPhone and control it themselves, or just roll it at a certain speed. I can change font size with my phone, but I can't edit text, except on the iPad. With the large size font, the small glass only allows 4 or 5 words on the screen at a time, so it might be tricky to read at that size.
We took this product on streets of Chicago to shoot on a sunny day, and the talent could read it, but from no more than 12 feet away due to the small size of the glass and brightness of the iPad (turned all the way up).
We have not used it in the studio yet, but should work great for size and clarity at that distance we work in the studio configuration.
At our location, we don't do everything from prompter, so this works well for displaying format/rundown sheet, then used as prompter for 25-40% of the time for full scripts.
For the price, it does the job we need it to do.

This thing made money for me on my first shoot. Working with a Canon 5D on a Red Rock rig, shooting multiple execs speaking into camera. The ability to shoot a walk-and-talk, with a prompter, hand-held, in Time Square was ridiculous. Execs loved it.

Comments about Prompter People Ultralight iPad Teleprompter:
A couple of things you should know before you buy this...
1. The normal IPad Teleprompter does not work with ENG cameras unless you get a longer sled, which costs abo. $200.
2. Without the longer sled it will not hold a 7D with a battery pack...but you can jerry-rig it.
3. As a negative...the screws don't seem to tighten all the way, so there is some movement.
Having said that, after looking at other really expensive teleprompters, this is a sweet little deal, very portable and easy to use.

I am an independent Director of Production, which means, I do EVERYTHING in production, including running prompter. The Ultralight for iPad is just that..ULTRA-LIGHT! I use it with my EX-3 with Sachler head and hotpod, and it works great! I can even go handheld with my iPad scrolling at a pre-set speed, and still move and groove! Great product!
