Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

A 400 watt/second monolight is a staple in a location shooter's kit. This light joins a pair of Uni400JR units that I have been using on location for almost fifteen years. My old lights have been dropped, knocked over, and otherwise abused, and they are still in great shape. Light output is consistent shot to shot, and they just keep on going.

The new model features several needed changes: there is a switch to turn off the audible ready beep, and the sync uses a 1/8 mono plug instead of the old household plug. It comes with a 7-inch reflector that takes standard grids, and has a well-designed stand mount and umbrella holder.

The Uni400JR has a rotary switch for Full to 1/8 power in 1/3-stop increments. I do wish I could choose an even lower power setting -- there are times that even 1/8 power is still too much.

Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

This is a workhorse. Out of the box, it has what you need in terms of basic lighting. It's built like a tank, no frills design and just works. My only con is that it needs a switch to turn-off the audible beep that it emits when it is recycled. The included reflector makes the unit more efficient at throwing light than the typical Dyna-Lite head and you can attach grids without any adapter. Great unit for in studio or location and even down and dirty quick location shooting. That's when you can add-on the battery pack and your all set.

Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

I'm a professional with a full-time studio and I use the Uni400Jrs when I travel on location. I have a full set with Jackrabbit batteries. These lights are true workhorses and can withstand a ton of abuse. The one I just bought was a replacement for a light that met a disastrous end after one too many spills onto concrete. I highly recommend anything made my Dyna-Lite.

Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

I have taken this unit for location and it is amazing. This unit is a true workhorse with outstanding light quality.
When used with the Jackrabbit system, you will be able to shoot anywhere, however, recycling is a bit slow, and number of shots is not so impressive out of each charge.
Recently a strong wind current on location dropped the light all the way down. Was badly hit, I just lifted it and kept on shooting.
            IMPRESSIVE AGAIN.

Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

I have used these lights for a portable studio for years and will stick with this product. The only improvement I would recommend would be to integrate in the factory - the pocket wizard radio receiver in this model just as they already do with the studio versions of their strobe heads.

Comments about Dynalite Uni400JR Monolight (120VAC/12VDC):

This is your workman's lunch pail monolight. Built like a tank, no frills design and just works. The one thing that it needs is a switch to turn-off the audible beep that it emits when it is recycled. The included reflector helps make the unit more efficient at throwing light than the typical Dyna-Lite head and you can attach grids without any adapter. Nice unit for down and dirty quick location shooting and as an add-on to your existing pack and head Dyna-Lite system. Can't comment on the use of the Jack-Rabbit batteries with this unit, I heard its painfully slow so I have avoided buying them.
