Canon EW-60C Lens Hood for EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6, II, III, IV, V, 18-55mm & 28-90mm Lenses
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Nice lens hood. Fits my Canon 18-55mm lens perfectly! Quality plastic, and the inside of the hood is a nice flat black. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it's not very deep. It helps, but I think it could provide more protection if it was a tad deeper. It's only about an inch deep. Good product tho. I would recommend this hood for that lens.

I spent extra to get the Canon branded lens hood however this lens hood is very difficult to fit onto my 18 - 55mm IS lens. I can't imagine the much cheaper generic brand lens hoods would be any worse. Save your money, Canon made no effort in making this lens hood fit the lenses propertly. Previously had Nikon products, their lens hoods fit their lenses like a glove.. I regret switching to Canon.
If you have 15 minutes to fumble around with this the lens hood everytime you need to put it on your lens or take it off, then go ahead and buy this.. however the generic cheaper brands will work just as well if not better!!

I bouight a LHC-ET67 Dedicated Lens Hood by Pearstone and this one in the same order and both are made with quality plastic, so I'd rather to buy the Pearstone instead of the Canon.

A good hood that doesn't cause shadows on wide angle. I have to reverse it when not in use to fit in my bag, which can be a pain as it is a little tricky to get on and off, but not so much so that I wouldn't recommend it.
