Over the last couple of years, I have tried several slide converters for my huge collection of slides. Quality was always lacking. Some were pixled and none of them reflected the true color, until I ordered the Perfection V330 Photo Scanner by Epsen.
It is amazing. Open it and inside is a gizmo to hold either four slides or a strip of negatives. Not only does it give you true color (of either slide or negative) but if you say scan, it scans each slide and saves it individually. No more crop, cut, paste and save each one yourself.
Right now, I am converting my mother's 1940's photo albums to digital so that everyone in the family can have a copy and she can add photos to the life story she is writing. The software is perfect for oversize pages. You put it in one way, scan, flip it around, scan and then tell it to stitch. It puts the page together. It's like magic.
And, if that isn't enough, if you lay photos on the scanner, without the photo album page, it will scan each one individually. At least when they are in a row. I haven't tried just all over the page yet.
I highly recommend this scanner. It's quiet and fast on top of all the rest.

The Epson V330 promises a lot of performance for the price, but does not quite live up to its specifications. With 4800dpi optical resolution it seemed ideal for my needs since I could not afford the Epson V700/V750 or more expensive solutions like a drum scanner or high-end flatbed. The setup of the V330 could benefit from a printed user's manual which it lacks out of the box. Also, the bundled software for editing is not very capable compared to the tools, for example, that Canon bundles with its low end and mid-range scanners. I abandoned these quickly in favor of Photoshop and SilverFast (VueScan is also a good alternative). Full page sans (8.5x11")are not possible with the V330 at resoultions more than 1200dpi and I actually cut back to 1000dpi and 24 bit color to shorten the scan times. Even so, a typical full page scan took about 5 minutes. My main gripe about the V330 is that even at these resolutions, the scans produced were not sharp. Another complaint I had was the film holder supplied which is setup for either a six-frame strip of 35mm film or four 6x6cm frames. I have a 6x7cm medium format Mamiya RZ and a Sinar 4x5" view camera which I still use occasionally and a ton of mounted 35mm slides and there is no way to scan these image sizes or 4.5x6cm with the holder supplied. You can order appropriate holders for the V700 or V750 which will work on this scanner that support 4.5x6, 6x6, 6x7, 4x5 and even 8x10 although the V330 will not scan an 8x10 image at more than 1200dpi.The V330 is intuitive to set up and use and provides scans which I would rate as a 6 on a scale of 1-10 where 10 would be a scan from either an expensive drum scanner (Howtek)or an expensive flatbed (the Creo EverSmart, Fuji C-550 Lanovia, or Agfascan XY-15). The main problem is lack of sharpness and lack of good noise removal with the bundled software. For the price paid ([$]), the Epson V330 provides fair value, but potential buyers should consider Canon's line of scanners in the same price range.

Not being to saavy with things technological, I was thinking setting up my product would be complicated. Much to my surprise, it was easy to set-up and use, and the results are really good.

I am pleasantly pleased with the V330 scanner which I purchased for slide and film strip scanning. The setup was a little confusing with less than desired help but it was still rather quickly installed and has worked beautifully from the first slide. I scanned a full tray of 130 the first night. I do, however, think the slide holder could be better designed and is difficult and fustrating to load without the slides falling out.

I purchased this scanner after a recommendation from my brother-in-law who had one. It's ability to identify individual photos and make them seperate scans was a time saver. The instructions are sparse but the set-up and operation is intuative. The software was a bit buggy at first, but just had to restart to fix. Also got a great deal at B&H. No hassle.

I use this scanner mostly for end-of-tax-year document scanning, and I am pleased with the clarity and small size of the resulting files. I was pleased with the ability of the v330 to take an old faded color photo and bring it back to life, using the Epson scanning software. It's lightweight, quick to warm-up, and quiet. Overall a very happy purchase.

The V330 Photo Scanner by Epson is fast and sharp. Easy to use software with a versatile interface for every scanning situation. My only wish is that it had a plug-in for Photoshop. Other than that, well worth it.

Comments about Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner:
I have used this scanner to scan in 35mm film slides and to print out an enlargement. Both uses provided great results. It can scan 4 slides at a time and separates them automatically into 4 individual file. The quality and color from the can was great. I was only scanning at 1/4 of its full resolution to speed up the scan process. It takes about 3-4 minutes to load the scanner with 4 slides and then scan them and get them out, it can be time consuming if doing a lot of slides. I also scanned a 4x6 proof and scanned it at the maximum 1200 dpi resolution and then printed it from Millers Lab at 11x14 and the quality was so good you would have never known it was from a enlarged scan. The only downside to the scanner is that the plug ins are at the front of the unit where the buttons are instead of the back, which is a very common complaint, but certainly not a make or break deal. The next thing is that you really can not easily buy more 35mm slide trays so you can preload slides in to speed up the process, you have to load them on a flat surface and leave them there or they fall out. The next thing is that with MAC OS Lion, it says not to use the CD on the epson website and with the instructions in the box, have no idea why. I followed there instructions and it forces you to use the buil in imaging software on the MAC, this software is fine, but really is not near as good as the Epson software. I went ahead and installed the CD on my OS Lion and it worked without a problem, not sure why they say that but whatever, I am just glad it works so good.

Fast, easy to install, easy to use. Can upload several pics at once - just don't put them too close together. I put it to work as soon as I got it with a lot of old pics and it past the test. Do wish I could add my own label/names to each pics, but can do that after they upload so...
Press green button, press green button, and it saves to jgp.

I bought this scanner for scanning film negatives. I researched many different options under $200. Most would only scan a single image at a time and reviews were all over the board. Not only does this scanner work well and have great software it can scan 5 slides or a 6 picture negative with one button push. For [$] this scanner is a hands down best bet for personal film scanning.

Comments about Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner:
I purchased this scanner to archive a large family archive of photos, slides, negatives, correspondence, artwork, and memorabilia.
The top of the scanner opens 180 degrees which allows items larger than the scanning area to be easily scanned. I have many photographs as big as 24 by 36 inches which I scan in sections and then combine with the photomerge process in Adobe Photoshop CS5.5. The results are well above expectations.
The scanning software is very easy to use and provides a wide variety of resolutions from 50 to 6400 DPI. The high resolutions, 4800 and 6400 are important for scanning slides and negatives with high quality results. Many devices made specifically for scanning slides don't have this high resolution available.
There are also options for color correction and digital dust removal.
I went into the B&H store to purchase a slide scanner and was prepared to pay three times the price of the Epson. I already had a mutifuntion printer that scanned flat items. The sales associate recommended buying this scanner. I was a little skeptical given the low price but I'm glad I did. I no longer use my printer for scanning as the Epson has a larger scanning surface. I also find that scanning old photos and documents creates quite a lot of dust. It is much easier to keep the scanner clean and you don't risk contaminating a printing mechanism.

Comments about Epson Perfection V330 Photo Scanner:
I bought the V330 over the V300 despite not having an many reviews. I did however, factor in all the good reviews of the V300 into my purchase. Having decided to take the newer model I can say I am fairly pleased with this scanner.
I have made my living the past 3 years as a working photographer. I decided to take on a personal project of scanning in old photos and 35mm negatives. This does the job quite well. If you're considering a similar project this scanner will do everything you need. I would search the web for some good sites on scanner resolution needs. If your goal is to simply have digital files on your photos you really don't need such a powerful scanner. If your goal is to reprint photos and perhaps take a 4x6 and turn it into an 8x10 then you need 1200dpi or better. Again, there are some really good sites out there that explain this. It's math and I am.....not a math person.
The software that comes with this scanner seems to do the job ok. I haven't messed around with it too much but there are different menus that you can bring up that will allow you to let it do all the work for you or let you customize every aspect of the scan. It's some ugly software though. Very windows XP looking.
I haven't owned this scanner for too long yet so I can't speak to it's long term reliability. Obviously I am hoping it does very well in this category.
If you are getting into an archive project like this beware. You immediately see your need for more stuff! Think archival folders, boxes, white gloves, external HD for back-up ect. Having a system of how your going to do it is important. I would say having the V330 apart of that system is a good decision for the price.

I have been converting 1500+ Kodachrome slides onto my MAC, and the V330 has been a godsend. It works exactly as advertised. Color reproduction is great, and it can be operated by a six year old. On the other hand, the documentation is inadequate and had to phone their tech support to set up. Also, the process of scanning and importing is slow. You can only scan 4 slides at a time, and each scan takes about 5 minutes, so maximum speed is 40-50 slides per hour.

I was looking mainly for a higher definition slide scanner than the one I had, and the V330 has not disappointed. I found it very easy to use--I was scanning old slides within 5 minutes of turning it on. Installation was easy; no glitches with the software so far. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Bought this scanner because it seemed to fit my needs. A primary factor was that the literature bore the "Windows7 compataible" logo.
The first install seemed to work, but the scanner was unresponsive. Uninstalled and tried again. This time it works from within the scanner software.
The scanner does work, however none of the buttons work. You have to use a seperiate program to scan to the printer - not exactly user friendly.
On the plus side, when it works, it does produce good quality scans and is a lot quicker than my old machine. If you are using XP or previous, this is probably a great product

I purchased the Epson scanner for one main reason - I wanted to copy family photographs before they deteriorated and more than they already had, and the Epson scanner did a magnificent job. I have not yet tried the slide scanning feature, but that will be its next test.
The only thing that I don't like about the unit is the placement of its controls and connections. The power and USB connections are at the front of the machine, which means that when it is connected the wires end up going across the entire unit.
Other than that, I am completely satisfied with the looks, style and performance of the Epson scanner.
