The system, only 7.7" square and 1.4" high, is a great option for users who would like an inexpensive, yet fully-functional, desktop Mac. Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple, actually understand what it means to build a solid, quality product. Almost all computer gear now is made of cheap plastic. It looks cheap, feels cheap, sounds cheap and often falls apart long before it should.
The Mac Mini is made out of metal. Yes, remember METAL? Thankfully, Apple remembers how to use the right materials when it counts. When you have one of these on your desk, it says that you are smart enough to spend a little extra when it matters.
It also says that you just don't have time for blue screens and other stupidity. Sorry Microsoft. After years of frustration with Windows, Apple continued to develop its products and now there's just no reason to spend all my time rebooting and talking to tech support.
My only question for Apple is why did it have to make the Mac Mini so small. They need to make it bigger so that a regular SATA hard drive or two can fit inside. There's just no reason to limit a desktop machine to using a 2.5inch, 5400rpm laptop hard drive. There's no room for expansion, except the memory (up to 8GB), and it would be nice to change out the hard drive yourself if you want, just like you can in a PC.
If you already have a monitor and want a desktop Apple Mac, you have to choose between a small Mac Mini or a Mac Pro. There's no in between. Please Apple, give us something in between, with more space.
Having said that, this computer is going to make a great gift. If you've thought about making the move from Windows to Mac, this would be a good way to get your feet wet if you're wanting a desktop for under $1,000. It has been a good move for me.
Be sure to checkout "The Missing Manual: Switching To The Mac" by David Pogue. It is very helpful!

I have been the windows user for 10 years. I heard great things about MAC operating system and decided to try it. Mac mini is the cheapest option to try the MAC OS. So I decided to buy this.
Mini looks beautiful and aluminum body is very sturdy. I connected Mini to 24" TV with Hdmi cable. The display is OK. I use WD HD player for watching videos and it is better than mini.
Mini becomes extremely hot. I could not place my hand on mini even for few seconds. I am planing to buy portable fan to cool it.
Only thing I like about Mini is it is beautiful.

This mac mini has everything you would expect from Apple, but no free upgrade to Lion as Apple promised.
Apple would not take the B#H electronic receipt as proof of purchase.
Apple, you stink!!

I use my Mac Mini for both work and play. I develop web sites and I write. I also use it for viewing movies through Netflix, Hulu and DVD. The unit is extremely fast when using native software; it's quiet; and I was able to use my existing 22" Gateway monitor. The only drawback is that when launching Parallels to use Windows for work, it's very slow. [...] I love Apple and the Mac Mini is the best of Apple. You get the speed and stability of an Apple, a sleek and compact design, and all for less than $600. Love it, love it, love it!!!

Right now, this computer easily offers the most bang for your Mac Buck..... I suggest using a flatscreen TV as a monitor with Hdmi, so that way, you can use your t.v. as a computer. You can pick up a keyboard and mouse, either bluetooth, or USB... and make a full system that way!

For photo sharing, basic office tasks, Face Time and internet applications, this powerful little box provides all the punch you need. Its user-friendliness is super. The case has a solid, a logical and practical design. We gave one of these as a gift to elderly parents, and it makes all those PC issues of a laptop on Windows melt away! What a difference.

This is my second mac mini. I bought it to replace an older Mac Mini which blew up its mother board or logic board. Hopefully this new one (Mid 2010) will last longer.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND UPGRADING to the 8GB RAM (buy 2nd party instead of Apple, huge price difference) I also upgraded the 320GB to my Macbook Pro's 500GB and it worked like a charm (not necessary but if worth it if you can).RAM is easy to upgrade, HDD takes a little more know-how. Worked flawlessly with my 27' HP monitor via HDMI.You will need to buy the MOUSE and KEYBOARD SEPARATELY! Although not necessary (you can use your PC's USB keyboard and mouse) I recommend you get the Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, all 3 cheaper at BH than Apple Store.Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is GREAT. VERY EASY to set-up.BH has the BEST PRICE out there HANDS DOWN! No Tax outside of NY [...] I have Windows 7 installed on both my Macs purchased from BH.

I am using this Mac as an entertainment system for my house. Its connected to the TV via the HDMI cable, its a perfect image. It has a amazing design so you dont need to hide it (like I used to do with the old PC). The optional remote is great for viewing movies.
The only con is the HD size, 300 GB will go in a blink. Could have paid more to get a larger drive though.

The Mac mini is a wonderful solution if you already have a monitor laying around unused. I bought the 2 gb version and put in 8 gb of aftermarket ram. The machine is a great basic desktop computer but is still small enough to be easily moved from room to room.

Comments about Apple Mac mini Desktop Computer (Aluminum Unibody):
My daughter has been using my wife's computer more and more for homework. My wife uses her computer for her sewing business so the increased use by the daughter was starting to interfere. So, my wife and I decided to start looking for a computer for our daughter. We have been long time Macintosh users and a Mac for her was obvious ;-).
Although she really wanted a laptop, we decided that, 1. we were not sure that we wanted her to have a computer to carry around and 2. not sure we wanted to pay that much.
A couple of years ago, for Christmas, we bought her a TV making sure that it had HDMI and DVI inputs. So, The Mac Mini was an obvious choice for us. It was the least expensive, could use the existing TV as a monitor, and I already had extra mice and keyboards.
Of course, when I set it up, I used the built in parental controls which were easy to transfer from her account on the wife's computer using the built in Migration Assistant.
It was also very easy to add her new computer to our Time Machine backup hard drive we already have on the network.
My daughter is thrilled, we can limit what she has access to via the parental controls, and my wife has her computer back.
All is well again in the household :-)
The Mac Mini may be on the 'Low End' of the Macintosh line but it is a great little computer with plenty of power for all of our daughter's needs including homework, email, and organizing all of her photos and music.
Give it a try.
