As a relaunch of the legendary Video 18 head, the Sachtler Video 18 S1 Fluid Head has incorporated a wider payload range and a faster, simpler balancing system. The increased range means that even lightweight cameras--such as video DSLRs--can be used effectively on this head, aided by a 16-step counterbalance system that allows for fine degrees of tuning. Like its predecessor, the Video 18 S1 can also easily handle heavier ENG camcorders, with a Boost Button now included for sudden shifts in payload range (for example, when switching out a shoulder-mount camera for a handheld HDV camcorder or DSLR).
Along with the enhanced counterbalance come those features that made the original Video 18 so popular, including 7 levels of drag, a self-illuminating bubble level, a Touch and Go plate for speedy mounting and removal, and Sachtler's already proven Speedbalance technology. The Video 18 S1 not only embraces the Video 18's reputation in the field of newsgathering, it aims to surpass it.

Comments about Sachtler Video 18 S1 Fluid Head:
No need to say, This is one of the best head in this class.
And also its one of the most famous head in Sachtler.
Awesome construction, stability, toughness..this head will brings perfect motion to you.
However, it has became cheap looking..
I mean the paint, plasticky parts, "Sachtler" emblem made by toy-like gum!
The pan handle is telescopic, but you need care when you slide it.
Because it has NO stopper. So, it will falling down so easily!
These are almost unbelievable as its cost.
I think 18P or 18III had had the best quality..
Even after that, I have to say once again, This is one of the best head in this class.

Comments about Sachtler Video 18 S1 Fluid Head:
I bought this head to replace a much-loved Sachtler Video 18III that I had used hard and travelled the world with. The new 18 S1 is very similar to the old 18III, but improves on it in many small ways. It has more capacity, the top plate is now longer and has more travel...making it easier to balance a wide variety of cameras and loads. The new counter-balance controls are easier to dial-in. It's also nice to have an extra set of screws attached to the plate should you need them. I generally shoot full-size ENG-style cameras, and often will have heavy wide angle lens, wirelesses, monitor and even digital recorder attached, so I need a tripod that can handle all that weight and still perform. The new 18 S1 does that very well. It also handles smaller, lighter cameras better than the old system.
Cameras will come and go, but a Sachtler is a good investment that will last you many years.
