E-MU 0404 PCIe - PCIe Digital Audio System
The 0404 PCIe from E-Mu is a PCIe card for Windows based computer systems that provides 4 inputs and 4 outputs of audio via a combination of analog and digital I/Os. Despite its low cost, the card nonetheless delivers impressive specifications with low signal to noise ratios and high dynamic range.
The card itself contains DSP that holds over 600 different effects and that can be utilized by the included PatchMix software for very flexible routing, processing and mixing of all the audio. The result is very low overhead CPU usage by the host software. Low latency drivers allow compatibility with a wide range of audio software, some of which is included with the system.

It would'nt work with the 1212m PCIe. I was trying to get two more anolog inputs but the Patchmix software would'nt recognize it. Tech support was swift from E-MU [...] so I returned it. If this card as an "unbalanced" version of the 1212 or 1616 is anything like either of them (since I did'nt have a chance to try it) then the card is well worth the money. If you are patient you will figure out the Patchmix software wich is amazing.

I bought this sound card because it was a PCIe,and I've now spent days trying to get it to work with MULTIPLE programs. It works well for generic audio options like mp3 playback, but as far as using it for a recording option...forget it. [...] If you plan on doing ANYTHING above 16 bit, look elsewhere.

Finally every thing in my studio is working. It only took three years. I'm very happy with the end result. The sound has littlr to no niose it sounds great the softwear that it comes with is worth 5 times that even thow they are the lite version there is so much that you can make from it. Great Deal.

I use the 0404 really as a midi input for vdrums. Why? because, believe it or not, PCIe is much better way to input midi. The latency and jitter are super low (thats good!) so if you using your vdrums to trigger VST samples it feels very responsive and accurate. I'm actually very surprised how much better my vdrums felt through the 0404 versus another USB midi interface.
The install was no problem. It runs on win x64 without complaint.
Ironically, I haven't tried the audio yet as I have another sound card, but I would definitely recommend it just as a midi interface for vdrums.
