Before buying this product checked various External Hard Disks which are cheaper. Many users complained about slowness of other products, after going thru reviews and comments finally decided on Seagate GoFlex. [...].The product was[...]shipped with a USB 2.0 compatible adapter along with an external power cord, USB 2.0 cable and software for restoring and Mameo Backup software.I unboxed the drive and attached to my laptop , within minutes the software was installed and I took a complete backup of my required directories.Few good points: * Has 4 indicators which denote the utilized space. * You can use USB 3.0 and Firewire ofcourse we need to buy the compatible adapter. * Best thing is your Mac can read files copied from Windows PC as this product as a NTFS driver for MAC. I bet you need to reformat in other External drives to use with Mac.Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and definitely recommend to others.

This drive is not Macintosh compatible. It goes to sleep during writes. I reformatted it in every possible configuration and still it goes to sleep. I bought the FW800 base and installed the freeware onto my Mac which keeps external drives awake, and still the drive goes to sleep during writes. B&H promptly refunded my money and I purchased an OWC drive which works fine.

The 2TB drive is adequate for most home users wanting to back up documents, photos, videos, and computer programs. There are also 3TB and 4TB models.
Advantages are equipment size (4 1/2" x 6 1/2"),ease of installation (install programs begin once unit is plugged in) and noise level (very quiet). The program graphics are easy to use and mostly helpful. Another advantage is that once all files are backed up, any new files are automatically backed up so that at any given time there is only one backed up set of files that is continuously updated as new files are added.
The primary weakness (in my opinion)is the exceptionally long time it takes to upload my documents, 13,000 photos, and computer programs. On its 5th day of uploading, only 25% or 8,000 files were backed up. It's uncertain how much longer it will take to backup the remaining 11,500 files.

I purchased this one because it said it automatically loaded with Windows Vista. I started the backup and it looked like it was backing up (for 6 hours I might add) and then the whole thing stopped and said the unit couldn't be detected. I tried downloading software from the site, but not no avail. I sent it back.

It is not stable in the upright position, best to rest it on it's side.
Mac users need to reformat the drive, using Disk Utility, to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, before using the drive with Time Machine.

This was the second of two of these. I purchase them for automatic back up and retrieval. I had a recently definite to access the backed up data on one of them.. Following instructions I found nothing but deleted items. Checked the second one to see if I was doing something wrong, but the results from that dive were the same as the first.
You cannot trust this item to back up and retrieve your data, period .
