Eizo ColorEdge CG245W 24.1" Widescreen LCD Display
The ColorEdge CG245W 24.1" Widescreen LCD Display from EIZO is a high-quality monitor, built to the stringent standards required by pre-press, digital photography, video editing, and post production applications. The display features a 1920 x 1200 native resolution, a stunning 850:1 contrast ratio, and 270cd/m² brightness. It features DVI-I and DisplayPort inputs, both with HDCP support.
The monitor is designed for use in environments where accurate color is essential. A calibration sensor is built into the top bezel of the display, allowing you to ensure proper calibration with ease -- and without the need for a 3rd party device. ColorNavigator software is included with the display. You'll also be able to calibrate via the monitor's OSD, eliminating the need for calibration software altogether.
The ColorEdge features factory calibrated gamma, brightness and color temperature stabilization, and an overdrive circuit for enhanced gray-to-gray response time. Color deficiency simulation, 10-bit simultaneous display support, and 16-bit internal processing round out the impressive features of the display. The display ships with a FlexStand, which offers tilt, swivel, height, and pivot adjustment. The included hood can be used in landscape or portrait orientations.
- Built-In Calibration Sensor
- A built-in sensor is housed within the monitor's top bezel and swings down over the center top of the screen when calibration begins. This built-in sensor eliminates the need for a third-party calibration device and even operates in portrait mode
- Self-Calibrating Monitor
- Using either the OSD menu or the bundled ColorNavigator software, you can schedule the ColorEdge CG245W to self-calibrate at a specific time and at specific intervals. You can even schedule calibration for outside of work hours when your computer is turned off and you are no longer present
- OS-Independent Calibration
- Since the PC itself is not necessary for self-calibration, the ability to calibrate the monitor is not dependent on using an operating system supported by the ColorNavigator software. Therefore, a calibrated ColorEdge CG245W can be used with Linux even though ColorNavigator currently does not support this OS
- Correlation with Other Sensors
- The ColorEdge CG245W can be correlated to the measurement results of an external calibration sensor. This is convenient if the ColorEdge CG245W is used in a work environment with other ColorEdge monitors and one measurement device must be used as a standard for all calibrating. Correlation is done with a new "Correlation Utility" included with the bundled ColorNavigator software
- Simple and Precise Calibration with ColorNavigator
- The bundled ColorNavigator software makes calibration both simple and quick. Just input target values for brightness, white point, and gamma. The built-in sensor directly utilizes the monitor's look-up table and creates an ICC profile within minutes. - Wide Color Gamut
- The monitor reproduces 98% of the Adobe RGB color space so it can display most colors in a digital photo taken in Adobe RGB mode. Furthermore, it also has an sRGB mode to accurately reproduce colors in this narrower but commonly used color space, such as those seen on web pages or digital photos taken in sRGB mode
- Three Inputs Including DisplayPort
- Connect with up to three PCs via the monitor's dual DVI-I inputs which accept digital and analog signals, and the DisplayPort (digital) input terminals. With DisplayPort, the monitor can display 10-bit color which is more than 1 billion colors shown simultaneously. This is 64 times greater than the 16.7 million colors of 8-bit display. The result is even smoother color gradations and noticeably reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors 1
- Brightness and Color Uniformity with DUE
- Fluctuations in brightness and chroma on different parts of the screen is a common trait of LCD monitors. To counteract EIZO a digital uniformity equalizer (DUE). DUE utilizes the monitor's 12-bit look-up table (LUT) with an extensive palette of 4,081 grayscale tones for each R, G, and B, and internal calculation accuracy of 16-bits. This ensures a Delta-E difference of 3 or less across the screen
- Factory Adjustment of Gamma
- To ensure that each ColorEdge monitor produces the most accurate and consistent color gradations possible, EIZO carefully measures and sets every shade of R, G, and B from 0 to 255 on the production line with the monitor's 12-bit Look-Up Table, to produce a monitor gamma value of 2.2. Should the user prefer a different value, ColorNavigator software can be used to set the gamma value from a range of 1.0 up to 2.6 in increments of 0.1
- Verification Documents Included
- EIZO stands behind the quality of the ColorEdge series by including two verification documents with each monitor. One document verifies the uniformity on 25 points across the screen while the other certifies that all 256 color tones on the gamma curve were individually adjusted at the factory
- Brightness and Color Temperature Stability
- To ensure proper display of color, the ColorEdge CG245W comes equipped with patented EIZO technology that stabilizes the monitor's brightness level after startup or coming out of power saving mode. Furthermore, a temperature sensor detects and automatically suppresses changes in color and brightness caused by fluctuations in the surrounding temperature
- 3D LUT for Better Additive Color Mixture
- The monitor utilizes a new EIZO-developed 3D LUT. Whereas a typical 1D LUT adjusts color on separate tables for each red, green, and blue, a 3D LUT accomplishes this on a single, mixed-color cubic table. A 3D LUT improves the monitor's additive color mixture (combination of RGB), a key factor in its ability to display neutral gray tones
- Ideal for Moving Image Work, Too
- An overdrive circuit is included to reduce gray-to-gray response time to 5ms and ensure that moving images look clean and sharp with an absolute minimum of blurring and ghosting
- Shading Hood for Portrait and Landscape Modes
- Most shading hoods can only be used in landscape mode, but the ColorEdge CG245W comes bundled with a unique shading hood that is designed for portrait mode as well. Now you can keep the glare off your screen no matter which mode you work in
- Flexible Screen Positioning
- The ColorEdge CG245W comes with a "FlexStand" that offers tilt, swivel, 90° rotation for portrait mode viewing, and 6.2" (15.7cm) of height adjustment. Its innovative, bearing-less design reduces mechanical wear and the amount of torque required to adjust height
- Color Vision Deficiency Simulation
- To avoid creating inconveniences and even dangers for those with color vision deficiency, care must be taken when choosing color schemes for everyday items such as maps, road signs, web sites, and power indicator lights. This monitor can instantly simulate how still and moving images appear to people with two types of red-green (protanopia and deuteranopia) and one type of blue-yellow (tritanopia) color vision deficiency
- LED Buttons and On-Screen Button Guide
- For dimly lit work environments, the LED front buttons can be backlight to seven different brightness settings. An on-screen button guide appears above the buttons to indicate what each one is for

The CG245W has a lot going for it: internal calibration, 10 bit display (a 32 bit stream with 10 bits each for red, green and blue), a great warranty and color fidelity that finally beat my old Sony Artisan CRT.
However, getting the 10 bit data across the Displayport connection was not easy. (DVI connections are only 8 bit.) Two different Nvidia FX 3800 graphics cards wouldn't work. The new ATI FirePro 8800 did, but documentation on getting it to work was scattered across Eizo and ATI websites. Persistence paid off! A wow. Shadow detail is much better with the 10 bit connection. Until you see what this will show you it is hard to imagine the difference. Highly recommended.
