Comments about Motorola Talkabout MR356R 2-Way Radio (Pair):
I used the radios over rough terrain while hunting, to keep in touch with others. We were able to talk to others 2.5 to 3 miles away through rocky hills in SE Arizona. This radio made lesser radios into a 'better' unit, thanks to my radio's transmit and receive capabilities.
The NiMH battery pack, when worn out, can be replaced with with your own NiMH batteries, although you won't be able to use the home charger stand for those. You can also use alkaline AA cells in a pinch.
I love the NOAA weather radio feature. We were able to leave a day early because high winds were coming.
It was absolutely necessary to be able to program out the "roger" beep and even the keypad beeps.
I like dual recharging capabilities, either 120 volt with the stand or in the vehicle. I also liked the ability to talk while charging. It is great to keep in touch with others while driving to camp.
The light weight and small size were other bonuses. I did not use the vox or earphone features on this trip, although I like the option of using them.
For a moderately priced radio, I really don't see any serious drawbacks. The only thing bad would be the clip that came with it. I could see it wouldn't take any rough use, so I didn't attempt to use it. I didn't want to lose the radio. Being so small, it was so easy to dump the radio into a pocket and not worry about it that I don't see this as a problem. I suspect some people would complain if Motorola didn't include a clip. I'll probably end up throwing them away!
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Need to return this product. Took it on a trip - headsets didn't work. Car charger is not the standard USB charger they say - only works on this product. Also one of the walkies does not send. Had big problems trying to coordinate pulling something with the truck and a long rope. Just got out and yelled.

Comments about Motorola Talkabout MR356R 2-Way Radio (Pair):
I use this set of radios in the field, in rough terrain and poor weather conditions. They work well in most situations, and the hands free accessories are a great help for using the radio to receive instructions or send them, while working with your hands. Using the radio in a windy situation can be tough, as with any microphone outdoors, but this is minor. I recommended using very high quality rechargeable batteries with these and most devices. If you are transmitting a lot, they will use up the juice. The low power transmit option helps with this a great deal.
I do not like the colors however. Dark colored things tend to get lost in gear bags, and camouflage on a radio just seems odd. I want to see it if I drop it, not have it disappear.

Comments about Motorola Talkabout MR356R 2-Way Radio (Pair):
I use a radio to keep in touch with my fishing partner. We use float tubes most often and are on differents parts of a lake. This Motorola radio has a lot of options for use, and most of them seem practical and useful, not just appended uselessly. The hands free option using the radio mike itself is an especially good feature for my use. The range is well beyond what I would normally use but it's good to have it.
