The Swann DVR-470 OutbackCam Camera & Video Recorder is perfect when you need to covertly monitor rural locations such as fields, forests, yards, or farms. The camera and recorder come encased in a lockable enclosure that is resistant to weather and will not rust. A built-in IR illumination system means you'll get to see images even in the dark up to 32' feet away.
The camera can record still images at 2 megapixel resolution or full motion video at 30 FPS. Videos are saved in the AVI file format so you can easily upload clips to a PC or share your videos with others on your favorite social networking site. Each frame is stamped with the current date, time and moon phase, so you'll have a record of when an incident took place.
The camera includes a 2GB SD card which can be upgraded to 32GB. You can set the camera to record only when motion is detected in the field of view. This makes it easy to find event images and also saves storage space. This camera operates on readily available AA batteries and will also accept an external power supply.

Comments about Swann OutbackCam Camera & Video Recorder:
The OutbackCam is a very useful unit. A bit too big for my initial need of capturing the crab pot thieves at work, but it is a fantastic unit that I have found useful for seeing who steals bits and pieces from the shed. Excellent infared imaging at night is a real highlight, better than expected though like any camera, in day time mode with some back light, the images are almost impossible to discern the subject. It's a bit chunky so not ideal for real spy work, but will be great for capturing the wild jungle animals that frequent our surrounding area here in the jungle of Borneo. I give it 4 out of 5, the size of it the only real drawback.

Home and yard surveillance. Small compact easy to move. Easy to use and SD card works great with my notebook. The straps that hold it to a post or tree don't work to well. Made my own.

Comments about Swann OutbackCam Camera & Video Recorder:
Product probably works just fine but I have returned it for a number of reasons. First, the instruction manual is incomplete (admitted to by manufacturer's technicians) and does not completely reflect all prompts one sees during set-up. Secondly, this camera, unlike other trail cameras, is not intuitive to operate. Third, unlike competitive models, there is no way to know how many pictures/movies are on the camera without flipping through the prompts after opening the camera. The most important reason this camera does not live up to it's surveillance fanfare is I was told this new model does not flash in the dark and instead uses new infra-red technology that allows pictures without disclosing the camera's presence to intruders. Not so. The SWOBC like it's competitors, does flash so one must rely on purchasing a heavy duty lock and cord (not supplied) instead of the flimsy nylon belt and clip provided for this over-priced model. I believe there are many other less expensive choices with many more features and intuitive and complete instruction for use. Too bad since Swann products are usually fairly good value.
