I held out buying an iPad for two years. But the iPad 3 was just irresistable. So I took the expensive plunge and am very happy with the device. As you probably know, Apple does not discount its new products. Even if you buy them from 3rd party vendors, you still pay the same premium Apple price. But you can save serious money on AppleCare.If something goes haywire with your iPad, you will want to have Apple Tech Support available. They will help with Apple software and hardware issues. AppleCare stretches the iPad live phone support from 90 days to two full years. If repairs are necessary, Apple will stretch payment for parts, service, and shipping to two years (providing an extra year of coverage.) In addition, AppleCare adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage.Should you opt for AppleCare? Apple sells the plan for [$]. At B&H you get the same plan for just [$]. That's essentially 1/3 off. At last, an Apple product deal!

It's a bit expensive, but I protect most of my apple products with apple care. The service when I have used it for computers in the past is excellent. And, while I think Apple products are good quality, I have had problems with some in the past. I justified the expense by buying the iPad online (no sales tax) and using the money I would have spent on sales tax at another store to cover apple care.
