You can leave this in a USB slot so that it doesn't get misplaced and either use the installed backup software or your own. This is the third that I have purchased, one for a friends notebook that I helped him purchase and setup, one for my notebook,and this one for another notebook I bought. It's fast, has ample capacity (is available in smaller or larger capacity) and is from a fine manufacturer and vendor. It's a great value and as I said no excuses not to have one for each notebook.

It comes with software I don't need, so the first thing I do is reformat it. Small is great, but this is so small it's hard to keep up with. And if you have more than one, you can't easily mark them differently. But as an 8G storage module you can leave plugged into your laptop, it's made by Lexar. Need I say more? I like it a lot.

I love how small this thing is. I use it to store music and audio books on it. I can leave it in my mp3 compatible stereo without it sticking out and getting in the way. I don't care for the overly bright blue light that flashes as files are read or stored.

I plug this into a car receiver with a USB port to play mp3 files. It barely sticks out. I did have to paint the small plastic portion black so the blinking light would not bother me when I drive. I'm sure it would work nice for netbook storage too.
