The clapper board is an immensely important piece of equipment if you are shooting video. Especially if you are recording audio independently of the video.I purchased this product in preparation for a feature film, and it proved itself many times over.THE PROSThe "clap" is loud and succinct. The clapper also easily attaches to the board magnetically for compact keeping. On one side, the board and clapper have color bars that are great, both for white balancing shots and for post color correction work. On the opposite side are black and white bars which help with focus, aliasing, B&W post work, and the list goes on.The labels are clear and sunk into the board itself to prevent them from being scratched off during use. All necessary labels are included which are extremely helpful for keeping scenes organized. The white board itself is of great quality, and is easy to write on/erase using dry erase markers.THE CONSNo cons that I can think of. This product comes exactly as advertised. There are better boards out there, but if price is an issue for you (it was for me) you cannot go wrong here.BOTTOM LINEI bought this board expecting basic use, and was greatly surprised at just how useful this product is. The functions are great and the functionality is impressive.I wholeheartedly recommend this product! For [$], you won't find anything better.

I used it on a four day shoot and not only did a screw on the hinge come loose, but one of the sticks chipped. Minor inconveniences, but probably not worth it if more expensive slates are going to be more durable. Would have given it 2.5 out of 5 but I can't.

So far this slate has worked perfectly for me. For the money, it's well worth it. You'll need to tighten the screws a little at first, but after that, the thing functions exactly how you'd expect a slate to function.

Allows editors to easily identify clips. When it first sent I was disappointed because the corner was chipped. It looked like before B and H sent it, it had dropped from a shelf and it fell on the corner breaking the bottom. After exchanging it (took about 2.5 weeks) I was really happy with it!

Sturdy, reliable and well built. This is exactly the clapperboard I am looking for. Not only does it have black and white hash marks on one side, but the color on the other so I can make adjustments in post when I need to. It's the perfect board for my work on commercials and shorts.

I have been using this clapperboard to assist with a DSLR dual system and it has been working great. I'll mostly be syncing using plural eyes but still clapping for safeties sake. It's a great sturdy build quality with a magnet to keep the clap stick from hanging loose.

The slate is a solid build, the slap is crisp and does the job. One of the bolts fell off the first day of use, but we screwed it on and ever since it has not given us any problem.

The clap is a good, clear tone for synching, the sticks well weighted, the board fairly easy to clean. The nuts attaching the sticks, as other reviewers mention on this and other sites, can come loose. Whoever is slating should be checking for this every 10 uses or so. If you hand tighten regualrly, this should never cause serious trouble. A padded case is also a good idea; keep the box until you get one.
You should also note this is NOT a 9.75x11 clapboard. One AC complained about this on the set recently.

Everyone seems to be arguing about the fact that the markers stain the board. All I have to say is buy dry erase board cleaner, there ya go. Problem solved. Sticks clap nicely. I like the colors on front, for matching scenes. Also, I don't think that it says in the product description, but there's a whole second set of places you can write things in at on the back side, so it's kinda like 2 boards in one. the sticks on the backside are black and white.

The clapper part isn't solid wood, it's some kind of MDF or wood composite like Ikea furniture so the clap it lets out isn't as sharp and loud as the ones I've been using in school.

It serves its purpose very well! Unlike some other posts state, it is in fact a dry erase slate, witch come in handy. Its very well built. I have not had any problems with it so far. Great for the DSLR users out there. Its also a great icebreaker for the people you are filming and photographing, it really eases up tension and give the subjects a really laid back fun attitude.
