Panasonic BT-3DL2550 25.5" 3D LCD Video Monitor
The BT-3DL2550 25.5" 3D LCD Video Monitor is a rugged, high-end production monitor offering a 1920 x 1200 display and the ability to monitor high-definition 3D video both in the studio or in the field. Its assortment of professional inputs--dual HD/SD-SDI, DVI, component, RGB--timecode display, and 8-channel audio metering provide the flexibility necessary for monitoring 3D footage directly from a Panasonic 3D camera, high-end NLE system, or any other professional interface. The included polarizing glasses let you view the footage in full 3D, using one of 3 types of input: simultaneous Left and Right signals (separated across two monitors), line-by-line alternating Left and Right signals, or side-by-side images on a single display.
Other useful features include five customizable function keys, pre-installed calibration software, Cine-gamma Film-Rec compensation, Standard Markers and Blue-only, H/V delay display, monochrome and Cross Hatch overlay display, and split-screen/freeze frame--all contained within a lightweight, ruggedized frame with an aluminum alloy back panel designed with VESA-mount compatibility.
- A Wide Color Space with Six Color Space Modes
- The color space of the BT-3DL2550 is 102% that of the NTSC standard, so it exceeds the EBU/SMPTE range that can be displayed by ordinary LCDs. It accurately reproduces colors that are not easily reproduced by conventional displays, including CRTs, to meet the needs of both broadcasters and production studios, and to work in fields such as digital cinema, CG production, printing, publishing, advertising, and research.
- 3 Color Space Modes
- The BT-3DL2550 also offers three new color space modes in addition to the three conventional modes. The modes are menu switched, and can be assigned to function switches on the front panel for quick and easy changing.
- Space-Saving 25.5" Full HD Monitor
- The BT-3DL2550 is a full HD WUXGA (1920 x 1200) high-resolution IPS monitor. It is 10% narrower, 7% shorter, and has a 16% smaller footprint than the previous BT-LH2600W model with the same screen size.
- Faithful Color Reproduction for Broadcasting Services
- High-accuracy 10-bit image-processing of each of R, G, and B color data using 3D-LUT (Look-up Table) enables accurate color reproduction in all video formats whose luminance is low to high.
- "Xpol" Polarizing Filter Has Been Adopted
- The Xpol Stereoscopic 3D is an optical device based on a regularly arranged micro-polarizer. This allows 3D video to be viewed with polarizer glasses by bonding it to a flat-panel display, such as an LCD. Two pairs of polarizer glasses are supplied with the products. Additional polarizer glasses (BT-PGL10G) are available as option.
- Supports 3 Types of 3D Video Input System
- Interfaces required by professionals for 3D video production are available as standard. Monitor supports inputs of full HD 3D video from integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorders and other existing 3D cameras.
- Provides Special Functions Needed for Adjusting Rig-type 3D Cameras
- General rig-type 3D camera systems require the optical axis displacement to be compensated before filming. The BT-3DL2550 has various special display functions (overlay or half-mirror display and variable H-phase function).

Picture quality and versatility on this monitor are great. The cross hatch feature is very handy when adjusting paralax for a given shot. The one thing I think that needs work is the very narrow viewing angle for the passive 3D. The 3D quality is great...when your eyes are centered on the screen. When showing the video to multiple people at the same time, it is hard for them to see the full 3D effect without their heads bumping together. Also, the lack of an HDMI input for working with devices that have two lenses onboard, leaves me wanting a little bit. When using DVI as an input, you have very limited options for refresh rates, screen dimensions, and other features when hooking the monitor up to a computer-based edit suite.
I took away only one star for the things listed above because, despite those items, it is a great monitor. Its flexibility, and so far, durability, when compared to other models, is pretty good. With the numerous screw holes in the back, we were able to purchase a mount to hook the screen to a j-stand for shoots, although the built-in base is sufficient when a table or cart are available.
