The Mac Pro Desktop Computer Workstation from Apple is the company's premiere desktop workstation. The system is built with performance in mind, and is an ideal computer for use with demanding applications. The computer is housed in a striking tower form factor, highlighted by a silver front grille which provides easy access to USB 2.0 and FireWire-800 ports, as well as a headphone jack. Sturdy handles are present to aid in transporting the system when necessary.
Designed with expansion in mind, the computer features four 3.5" SATA drive bays, four PCI Express 2.0 expansion slots, and 4 RAM slots which can support a total 16GB memory capacity. Comments about Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Desktop Computer Workstation:
I use this for photography and design work. It's an upgrade from my 2007 Macbook Pro which was connected to my Eizo monitor. The Mac Pro is a huge improvement. I took out the 3 GB of RAM and put in 24. Also added two 1 TB Barracudas. Will be upgrading to CS5.5, but even with CS3, Photoshop is really fast. And now Aperture actually works.
It's very quiet. You just hear a kind of hum which I guess are the fans.
I love all the ports that are available on this machine. The connectivity on the laptop left much to be desired. Will still have to get a laptop for traveling, but it's so much more convenient to have a desktop again for day-to-day work.

Comments about Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Desktop Computer Workstation:
Used mainly for Photoshop and Aperture, plus some general business applications and web browsing.
Much faster than the old G5 iMac it replaced. This thing screams in comparison. Plus it can use the most current Mac-Intel applications and operating systems.
I immediately upgraded to 10MB ram which should be ample for any use I care to put it to.
This is a very quiet computer, even with the fan running. and also has lots of ports on the front and rear for firewire, usb, and audio connections.
I usually get 5+ years out of my Mac computers and the build quality on this one seems exceptional.
I know the aluminum case has been around for a while, but it still looks very cool. What other computer out there looks this good?

Comments about Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Desktop Computer Workstation:
I debated for a long time between getting the MacPro or the iMac. In the end I chose this one and I'm really glad I did. I think that one of the best aspects about it is is upgradability. I have 4x1TB 7200 HDDs in it. One is for Mac OS and my applications. The other three I setup to be a RAID 0 striped array. It's magnificent. Very fast and reliable. I have an external RAID that I use to back everything up with TimeMachine.
I also upgraded the RAM. I can run Final-Cut, ProTools, and Photoshop CS5 all at the same time. Word to the wise when buying multi-processor machines. Make sure that the application you are using are designed to use the extra cores. Also make sure that they are 64bit programs. A 32bit program can't really access anymore than 3GB of RAM so it can be a real waste. After getting this machine I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 and it's magnificent.
Another little thing that was really helpful for me, I had a little black MacBook before I got this MacPro. When I went to setup my MacPro, it prompted me to setup from a TimeMachine backup. I pointed it to the TimeMachine drive I used for my MacBook. It automatically moved all of my programs, settings, and data over. It saved me loads and loads of setup time. I did have to move over all my data from my old external HD drives once I setup my RAID array.
Another thing I really like is that the fans are very quiet. The only noise I really hear is from the hard drives, so that's WD making the noise.
A few things I would have liked to have seen. USB 3.0 port. Thunderbolt Port.

I've always had PC's but got sick of having issues and took the plunge to get this Mac Pro. Switching over from a PC to a Mac is a breeze and actually find that Mac's are easier to work with than a PC.

Comments about Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Desktop Computer Workstation:
I design packaging, advertising, and product (art and mechanical).
This is extremely fast, responsive, and other than one problem was easy to setup and get back into business.
The secondary power cord to the video card was not plugged in. After two hours of tech support and a RMA because of a diagnosed fried card I fixed it in two seconds after opening the case.
Awesome machine otherwise.

I find that this is the perfect for anyone debating between the Imac 27" i7 and this machine. More options for upgrades. You could get extra ram from 3rd party sites, and add a eSata card and now you can have up to 6gb/sec transfers to an external raid enclosure like the OWC Qx2.

Comments about Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Desktop Computer Workstation:
Great computer for the money. I don't need the extra power of the 6 and 12 core models, but do need the expandability and versatility of the MacPro.
This model provides exactly what I need for what I do.
My only con is the lack of BluRay support, but that's Apple's stupidity, not B&H's.
I also purchased a BluRay burner from B&H and installed it myself.
