Sometimes I think UV filters should be called Flare Control adapters, because that's the way they are judged.
This Tiffen UV filter does what it's supposed to - filters out the UV rays. What it does with flare (adds) is entirely different thing, which shouldn't be overlooked especially if you don't want to have to think about lens flare or have enough money for filters that cost 10 times as much.
For me, this UV filter is just enough. It's extremely cheap, it filters out the UV rays, and it protects the front element. I do have to think about flare more often than someone with an expensive UV filter but that doesn't bother me. The lens sits on a 30+ year old AI-S lens and makes me happy (satisfied is more apt).
In the end, it's all about priorities and if you are not happy with this product then you should either scale down your expectations (understand this filter's limitations) or take much more cash out of your wallet.

When I was looking for a filter for my 50mm lens, I just searched for UV filters, clicked to price them low to high and purchased the cheapest one and I certainly got what I paid for.
For full disclosure, I use this filter on my camera exclusively for video work and the ghosting effects and flares this filter cause are out of control. When shooting in low light areas, there are severe ghosting issues caused by this filter. It gets so bad that during low light shoots where I have to fight ambient light like receptions, I just remove the filter, because it kills the image..
Also, I have noticed it gets very cloudy very frequently and kills footage. If you are looking for something to use as protection, I would recommend spending a little more on a better filter so that it doesn't hurt your image quality in the long run.

Comments about Tiffen 52mm UV Protector Filter:
I recently bought 35mm 1.8G Nikon Lens and bought this "52mm UV protector filter" thinking that it will protect my lens. It indeed protected my lens but degraded my pics. I didn't liked the fact that this protector has made my pics look very dull and at the same time was impacting my aperture too.

Comments about Tiffen 52mm UV Protector Filter:
I don't see the need to spend more money on a UV filter when this one does not depreciate the image quality at all. It is simple, it was supposed to be simple, it is cheap, and it works.

Comments about Tiffen 52mm UV Protector Filter:
As noted elsewhere, I purchased the UV Protector Filter by Tiffen to go along with a rubber lens shade. I have 40 years under my belt in photography and have always added a UV filter and only cleaned the filter rather than taking a chance on scratching the lens coating.

I'm a very amateur photographer...but the first lesson I learned from the pros is to protect my lense! This works and fits perfectly with my lense and I have less anxiety over damaging my investment. If you're spending that much on cameras and lenses - it makes sense.

Inexpensive UV filter to protect lens so I can leave cap off for day's worth of shooting.
Clean threads and appears to be durable.

I did not buy it to improve my images. I bought it to protect my lens. Does that quite well. I haven't made any specific comparisons of outdoor shots to determine its filtering abilities. Fits the Lumix FZ40.

This thing filters both ultra and violet light??!!? That's freakin' magic. AND it screws in place so you don't have to hold it on the end of your camera with your free hand like a chump. Amazing.
