The 82mm UV Protector Filter from Tiffen is a wise initial investment. It can help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens.
A UV filter is the best available protection for the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to them as "cheap insurance".
Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters cut through some of the haze in the atmosphere rendering your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.
A UV Protector is probably the most popular UV filter people use. As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times to guard against front element damage but also adds the benefit of rendering your images clearer.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

This filter is well constructed and allows for the addition of a circ. polarizing filter because it is threaded to accept other filters easily, unlike some other filters that don't. I use this on my Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens. It is the least expensive quality 82mm filter available.

I bought this hoping that it would do what it looks like it does in the picture, filter out the blue cast in distant views but there is not a noticeable enough difference without it. It does protect the lens while shooting just by adding another layer of glass over it.

I purchased the UV Protector for that the lense of my Sony PMW-350. Just a little MORE insurance for the camera. The lense cost too much not to have protection for it.

I bought this filter to protect my 16-35 f/2.8L lens. It serves its purpose, but the lens cap does not fit right with the filter in place; it is always falling off.

Shooting in a factory a week ago they were testing components did I mention that they were testing hydraulic components? anyway getting the shot and as they were testing the unit the unit fails and shoot a nice stream of hydraulic fluid right at the lens made for a cool shot but managed to get things cleaned up and kept shooting. It is UV filters are worth the money spent to protect your lens.

Solid build that will add a little protection for any camera. Additionally, any-camera that has a 82mm filter doesn't come cheap so the added security is nice.

This was the first item I bought for my JVC HM700 camera. Easy to install, and does exactly what it's advertised to do. My lens is protected and the price was right. I wouldn't even take my camera outside until getting this lens protector. I shoot a lot outdoors in conditions that often are dusty. I leave my lens protector on all the time.

I don't see how someone can spend $10,000+ on a camera on not spring the extra $100 to make their image that much better. All pros, no cons. Fits well. Improves image more than expected.
