An age-long question for many photographers, writers, artists, musicians and businessmen or anyone who creates hard copies of their work - how do I file all this content and what do I do if I need copies in the future? A simple answer comes from Canon with the CanoScan LiDE210 Color Image Scanner.
The CanoScan LiDE210 scanner converts your color and B&W documents and images into high-quality digital files which can be loaded into a PC for easy electronic filing, retrieval and printing. This color scanner is incredibly easy to use - five easy buttons automate almost the entire process, so it's a breeze to scan, copy and create e-mail attachments or PDFs with just one touch. This gem is incredibly fast - scanning a letter size color document takes as little as 10 seconds!
Built-in retouching technology can further enhance your final images, and the Auto Scan Mode analyzes the scan, corrects it and then saves it with the optimal settings. Canon's Auto Document Fix is a built-in technology which further improves your final images with area-by-area data correction. You will get text with clear sharp characters and images with true-to-original color and contrast.
The Advanced Z-Lid expansion top lifts approximately 1-inch vertically and lets you produce clear, complete scans even of thick originals such as notebooks. One cable provides both power and a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed data connection for low power consumption. And when "where to put the thing" becomes an issue, the LiDE210 features 3-way positioning and can be tilted to an upright position in order to take up less precious desk space-and still perform all scanning functions.

I am a retired graphic artist and took a chance and bought a "cheap" scanner. I am lucky. This scanner is better than my past scanners from 2000 which I paid a fortune. pro:it scans quickly. It takes up no room and is lightweight.cons: none so far but I am concerned that this scanner is made with a lot of plastic. You cannot custom set the resolution. Your choices are 75, 100, 150, 200, 400 or 600dpi. If you are not picky then this will probably suit your needs. How to get the most out of the scan: You start with Canon MP Navigator EX software which is included where you have the option of one-click, or Scan/Import. Be aware that if you are not particular in the resolution, by all means use the One-click but the max resolution dpi is 600. If your needs are web design then 600dpi is plenty. On the other hand, if you want to scan at the max resolution, then scan using "Scan/Import" option. Once there click on "photos/documents" and you will arrive at MP Navigator EX where you specify your resolution, but the max is 600. However if you click the box "use the scanner driver", the green "scan" button changes to "open scanner Driver"...you will now be using "scangear" software. I would get started using "advanced Mode! Now you can use the default settings and scan to 1200dpi. Unfortunately I wasn't able to specify my resolution to any specific resolution and used the software's default choices....i.e. I would like to scan at 1000dpi but had to choose from either 600dpi or 1200dpi. This isn't a problem if I want to scan at 1200 and then import into Photoshop and reduce the resolution to 1000dpi.While using "Advance Mode", I can tweak the image adjustment, unsharp mask, descreen, reduce dust and scratches, fading correction, grain correction, backlight correction and guter shadow correction. I haven't played with them all but use the backlight correction on low to adjust the darkness of the photo and the unsharp mask.Of course you can scan, assign the dpi and do all the tweaking in Photoshop....but as the saying "the shoemaker's kids go barefoot"...I am a professional graphic artist and used to thousand dollar scanners but for my own needs I am only using this scanner. I decided to scan 20++ years of baby photos to college pictures of my kids that I threw in a large box. I have been starring at this box for decades and finally decided to scan them to DVD. This scanner is a workhorse for my needs. I have been scanning hundreds a day this week since I received the scanner and had no problems so far.

Adequate flatbed scanner
For some non-critical scans of photo prints. It does a good but not great job. The software is a bit confusing and so I use another program.

I bought this mainly to scan sports cards for sale on an online auction site and it works very well. Also scans documents well and is very easy to use. A small footprint makes this a great flatbed scanner for the price.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE210 Color Image Scanner:
After using the Canon CanoScan LiDE500F for years at work, I decided to get an updated version for myself at home when my home solution's usability declined. After some research, I chose the Canon CanoScan LiDE210 and it works like a charm.
I appreciate a flatbed scanner that is space-conscious and still fully functional, but when first using the scanner in its upright position, it feels unusual. Once you get used to it, it's a breeze. However, unlike the 500F, the 210 is hinged on the short side. This means the cover swings wide and there's no way to "catch" smaller items. The 500F is hinged on the long and downward-facing side, which makes it easier to slip in a small paper or photo and hold it in place. While copying a receipt with the 210, it slid out of the bottom so I needed to realign and recopy.
Other than that slight annoyance with the hinge position, I am pleased with the LiDE210's performance, speed, affordability, and the convenience of the preprogrammed buttons. It works flawlessly with my PC and Canon printer.

Using it to copy and store receipts that, otherwise, I would file and have difficulty locating at a later date. Even faint receipts appear clear and printable.

I purchased this primarily to scan photos that I have of my children before my switch to digital. I have found it easy to use, scans pretty quick... about 12 seconds after it is ready which is about 3 seconds. My all-in-one printer took 50 seconds. I am lovin' the quickness. I like that it separates the photos into separate pictures too! It looks about the size of a large laptop but very lightweight. I am very pleased with my purchase!

A great cost effective scanner. I have this one as well as the LiDE110 which we use as a field unity for our production team. Travels well and runs off of USB power so you don't need a power cable.

I just received my new scanner last week. Plugged it in and it worked right away, everything is easily compatible with my Mac OSX.6. Cant beat the price, I see no reason to go with another flatbed.

In my family I am the keeper of the pictures!
I bought this scanner to use to convert my families pictures into a digital format so that I can give a CD copy to each of my 3 siblings; 3 cousins and 12 other extended family members. I may use it for work after I'm done with my photo project.
The machine is easy to set up and use.
B&H was great... I will use them again. The online order process was painless, the product came on time and I had it out of the box and running in 15 minutes. It sync'd well with my desktop.
The only thing that would make this product better is if it had a 'paper feeder' to do volume but for the price it was an outstanding buy.
Thank you.

The included software is unnecessary and disrupting if you already know what you are doing and have Photoshop. Getting the device to play nicely if you know what you are doing and don't want all the unnecessary gadgetry and wizardry the included software provides, can be a little tricky and unintuitive. But once you've turned off those bells and whistles or disabled those components, the scanner does a solid job for a good price.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE210 Color Image Scanner:
The scanner itself is five-star flawless: Scan quality exceeds expectations at this price point. The software is another matter: I give it three stars, and that brings my overall rating down to four stars. First the good news: I use the scanner mainly to scan and convert sheet music to .pdf form for use in a music-display program, and the one-step process the software provides with the scanner does this job well, even allowing several sucessive scans to be 'stitched' into one continuous PDF document. However, I also use OCR (extensively at times) to convert printed documents to editable text files; the software is not solid here, failing to achieve good accuracy regardless of the font in the document, so I am reverting back to my ancient copy of Ominscan. I am not at all disappointed overall: You really do get what you pay for :)

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE210 Color Image Scanner:
It is very small and light, and USB powered so there is no power supply. How they manage move the scan head on 2-1/2 watts is beyond me, but it works great. It is very fast. Previews are a couple of seconds, and a full page 600 dpi scan basically runs at the speed of the USB interface maybe 5-10 seconds. 4x6 scans are even faster.
I bought it to scan old photos and I am doing so at 600dpi which is probably over the Nyquist limit for dye prints so there is no need to scan at any higher resolution. But it is there if you want it.
The resuting scans are extremely good for a non-color managed scanner. I am using it with a MacBook Pro (OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and the install was flawless.
Overall, another home run for Canon.

Works well with its own scanning software, but does not directly import easily into Adobe PhotoShop CS5 in 64 bit. There is currently no Twain driver that is compatible for PhotoShop. Files can be scanned and then brought up into PhotoShop for editing.
