Pearstone LHN-HB39 Dedicated Lens Hood (HB-39)
The dedicated Pearstone LHN-HB39 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Nikon's 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. This hood features a standard bayonet mount and a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. In addition, because the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area.

I bought this hood as a replacement for my 16-85 lens because I didn't like the idea of spending $30 for a Nikon-branded one. As far as I can tell the Pearstone is exactly like the Nikon I lost for a whole lot less cash. I won't feel nearly as bad if I lose this [$] replacement.
