The dedicated Pearstone LHN-HN3 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Nikon's 35mm f/1.4, f/2D, and f/2.8. This aluminum hood features a screw-type mount and a ridged interior surface that's designed to deflect light.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. In addition, because the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Solid, lightweight build. Perfect for shooting with the 35mm lens. It doesn't protrude far and prevents unwanted lens flare from the side. There are no drawbacks to getting it.

I debated on getting the double the price Nikon version but it just seemed to cost too much for what it is. This one works perfectly and I couldn't imagine the Nikon version being any better. It's just machined aluminum. You can screw it on to the front threads of the lens or a filter and it also accepts the lens cap from your lens. Very happy I got this one and saved money. You basically get two of these for the price of one Nikon version, which is what I did. If you don't like that it's not a Nikon product than it may help that it does have the word Nikon on it. Get this one, you won't regret it.

I debated about buying the name brand lens HN-3 hood but took a chance at this cheaper model. Glad that I did as it works perfectly well.
It screws into the lens properly, stays on, is well made of a durable metal and does not interfere with the images captured by the Nikon 35mm f/2D lens.
