Cuidado!

I am an amateur when it comes to photograpy. I have not taken many pictures for years because my husband has a big fancy camera with all the lenses and he has taken the photo's for us. I would never want to lug that much around. I became interested in getting a camera for myself when one of the buildings I consult for purchased a Canon Elf to take photo's of wounds in very low light situations and the photo's were amazing. After much research I wanted a camera that I could use for work and for personal use. The must haves were; small enough to fit in a pocket or hang from your neck comfortably; take photo's in low light; have a zoom lense of at least x 10, ability to take multiple shots per second for good action shots; and easy to use and change auto settings easily. I read about the Canon SD 4500 IS and decided it was the camera for me in spite of it only coming in Brown and that I had to wait for a month or so before it became available. I was so excited to receive my new camera the day before we left for our trip to the World Equestrian Games in Lexington Kentucky at the Kentucky Horse Park [...] I used the camera everyday taking action photo's of the horses in the different diciplines, dressage, jumping, cross country jumping and was amazed at the quality of photos. I also took several pictures of statues, people and landscapes and was impressed by the photos I got. My husband was impressed by the quality that I got with my little point and shoot and comparing it with the photos he got with his very large Nikon SLR with huge lenses that he had to carry around in a large back pack. The lady that sat next to me during the competition also had a large SLR camera and when I showed her the pictures I took with my little camera she said why do I lug this thing around when I could get pictures of that quality with such a little camera. I have to say it was easy to use, took great pictures and I was able to capture the perfect moment of movement in the dressage by using the multiple shots per second mode to really show off the horses gaits. The battery lasted pretty well for taking individual shots all day but was depleted quickly when using the video or the multiple shots option. The spare batteries were not available when I purchased the camera and I hope they become available soon. That would be the only negative along with the color, brown.

After researching for a week, I bought the 4500 primarily because it shoots 1080 - 24P video. (playback at 29.97fps) In addition, it focuses while shooting video. It's a stylish camera (I don't think the brown color is a negative) and works well in still mode. Everything about it is fine except for 2 things: the video quality and the limited battery life. The battery I could probably live with in order to get 1080 - 24P video, but the video quality in low light, is the worst I have ever seen on any camera. It's extremely noisy and even looks like bits of snow in dark areas of the scene. After much research and watching tons of HD video samples online, I don't think the video quality of point and shoot CMOS chip cameras is as good at CCD cameras... case in point, Canon still puts CCDs in it's higher end point and shoot cameras. I own a Canon 7D which is of course CMOS, but roughly a 1" chip and great processing versus the 1/2" chips in these point and shoot cameras. I returned the 4500 and bought a Canon S95 (CCD sensor) which shoots 720 - 24P. The video quality is night and day better in low light. Of course it has an f2 lens vs. f3.4 on the 4500, but I don't think that's the whole issue. I don't know if the model I got was particularly bad, but combined with the short battery life, it wasn't for me. Note: I also have a Canon SD870, which is CCD and shoots SD video. It's video quality is also much better than the 4500, but of course it's not HD. The only negatives with CCD cameras is the vertical streaking with points of light.

Great camera, for day and night pictures. The quality of the pictures is amazing. The only bad thing is the battery, that has a short duration.

I'm a casual photographer, i use this camera with the family and is the best small camera I ever had. Excellent performance and great portability. Fast and very accurate pictures. The full hd films are also great.
The only thing that is not so good is the battery life, I really recommend a second battery, and don't forget to carry with you.

The camera turns on but died after two days. The camera won't turn on at all even with fully charge battery. Have to return the product.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4500 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Brown):
1) in 1080 or 720 mode there is a 10min limit on video length .... it will NOT start another video once that limit is reached. It WILL stay on, drain battery, and give no audio or visual indication of the video no longer recording.
2) battery life is really short.
3) Slow motion mode is only for SUPER low quality; I'm talking 240 or something terrible.
4) HORRIBLE video quality in low lighting regardless of "low light" settings.
If you're looking for a nice digital camera, DON'T buy this, there are much cheaper ones that have lower video quality & higher image quality.
If you're looking for a nice video camera, DON'T buy this, can only record up to 10mins.
Bottom line: don't buy it.

I use this to take photos of my friends and nature pictures. I also like the video, as it can zoom and focus while recording. Many cameras in this price range do not do that.

I purchased this camera for the extended range over my Canon 880 IS. I also like the slow motion for using at the shooting range!
My main use for this camera is caring in my truck for convenience of quick shots of wildlife. It is small enough to put in my pocket and still takes great photos .
My only dislike so far is the battery life, but with extra batteries I can live with that negative.
This is the forth Canon point and shoot I have had and have never had problems with any of them. They all have taken exceptional photos for a pocket point and shoot camera.

I use this photo a compact substitute for my
SLR while on vacations, as an all-around camera when ease of use and a smaller size is called for.
It shoots great video, clear and crisp even when at maximum zoom. The numerous setting for photo formats go far beyond what a cellphone camera offers.
Battery life, as has been noted, is the one downside I can see.

Especially considering its size (fits in my pocket) and price ( is the brown one just less popular?) I am extremely impressed with this product's performance. My biggest factor when choosing a camera was its low-light performance, and the first night I had it I shot in a candlelit tent. The result was beautiful and I was SOLD.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4500 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Brown):
I purchased this camera to take along on my vacation so I wouldn't have to tote my larger Canon Rebel XSI everywhere. This camera is small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, or in a case that attached to my belt. It has a lot of different settings to choose from and quiet operation. The only downfall was short battery life, the battery lasted through all the events I took it to but didn't give much warning that it was almost dead once the battery life started to decline. Having read this in other reviews I purchased extra batteries that I had charged and ready to go. Overall it is a great little camera that will be easy to fit in a purse for those 'I wish I had my camera' moments!

Easy to use with outstanding results....I have had Canon Powershot cameras in the past so I expected to have great results.....but with the extra zooming power and image stability my photos so far have been amazing....
I highly recommend this camera to both amateurs and those with more experience.

I purchased the camera about 2 weeks ago and I am very satisfied with the product. I use it for everyday photos, family & friends photos and specalized photography.
The image quality is fantastic and I really enjoy the slow motion video recording which is fun to use. The macro recording is also a very nice feature.
One slight downfall is the battery life, but I bought another battery along with the camera which sorts out that problem.
Would definitely recommend this camera to anyone interested in a compact camera which is rich in features and has very good immage quality with a great zoom.
