Are you ready to rumble? Creatively, that is? Canon's PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black) is more than up to the challenge: it's got a 12.1MP sensor, a 12x zoom lens (28-336mm equivalent in 35mm, which goes from very wide-angle to super telephoto in a snap), and a vivid 3" display.
That's just the basics--there's also dazzling 720p HD video with stereo sound, fun special effects like Fisheye and Miniatures, and Advanced Smart AUTO that gives you the absolute best exposure for 28 different shooting situations like Portrait, Landscape, Kids & Pets, Low Light, Beach, Foliage, Snow, etc.
There's manual control over exposure and focus when you want it, image stabilization that controls camera shake when the shutter speed is low, color variations like Super Vivid for magnificently saturated colors or Color Swap (pick a color in your photo and replace it with a different color that you specify), sensitivity up to 1600 ISO, exposure compensation +/- 2 f-stops in 1/3 stop increments, and 6 different exposure control methods. Whew!
But there's a lot more. And it's all accomplished with 2 AA batteries, available just about everywhere in the world. Isn't that sweet?

I got this camera as an upgrade to the sx110 that I used to have. Both are great cameras, but my mom wanted the sx110 so she bought me this one. The zoom is great, I was able to get a fairly decent picture of Mt. Shasta from the rim of Crater Lake on a college trip to Oregon, that's almost 113 miles away. While the camera lacks a sports mode, simply using the shutter speed priority mode at the maximum speed with the flash up will get those action shots you want. The battery life was a bit short, so I got a set of rechargeable batteries with it and carry a spare set of AA's and the camera lasts throughout the day. Overall this is a fantastic camera for a casual photographer or even a photo enthusiast, and its the perfect size for those on the move.

I bought this camera for a cruise to the bahamas and I was so surprised at the amazing quality of the pictures. The 12xs optical zoom is amazing. It's so easy for me to take great quality pictures from a distance. I love this camera.

This is a great point & shoot camera when I don't want to take along the DSLR & all of the lenses.
It is great for vacation pics, newsletter pics, street photography, ect.
The picture quality is great & camera has enough of the advanced features of a DSLR when you want to "play".
No, it is not going to be great for sports or low light photography, but that is what the DSLR is for.
My only complaint is that there is no battery level indicator. Camera just dies when batteries run out.

I also own a Canon SX30 IS, but this camera is way over it in terms of photos quality. The 12x zoom is also enough and you'll not have as much distortions as the SX30. Great camera!

I bought this camera for my daughter, who is wanting to be a photographer. She has already taken really great pictures with this camera with little to no assistance or teaching from myself. Really appreciate the camera's price with all of the extras that comes with this item.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black):
This camera had to be returned after less than one day. The manual flash took almost 10 seconds to charge. The time between pictures even without flash was multiple seconds.
The selection ring was hard to use without picking the wrong menu item.
The AA batteries that came with it lasted about 10 pictures and one 60 second video.
It is a real shame because this is a feature rich camera for the price.

My daughter gave me about 10 minutes worth of instruction. I hadn't used any camera in about 10 years and was able to get great pictures on the first try. She uses Canon cameras for her yearbook class and would use nothing else as they do not hold up with such high usage and many users.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX130 IS Digital Camera (Black):
-This camera has the ease of a point and shoot, but better image quality. It's not too big of a camera, so you won't be lugging around giant lenses, and its not a tiny cheap camera; it's somewhere in between and I love that because it looks more professional but is still easy to use.
-The image quality is really good but it's pretty bad at capturing moving objects.
-I love the video quality, it's HD and it even has a "color accent" option where it shows only a selected color and all other objects are black and white, it's a really cool effect
-The only downside to the HD video is it takes up a lot of space on the memory card
-Probably the biggest downside to this camera is the AA batteries, even though I use rechargeable ones i always bring extra just in case
-Overall I enjoy this camera very much, it was a great decision at a great price

I did some research and this camera came out on top for a good vacation camera. I keep finding hidden gems like the smile finder and blink self timer. Nice heft to size ratio. Some cameras too small to get a steady shot with. This one has performed great in DC this week.
