The WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit from Western Digital allows you to transmit network data over your home's electrical wiring. Perfect for homes where Wi-Fi is not an option because of dead spots, the kit includes two compact boxes. Each features four Ethernet ports and a wall plug. Simply plug one into your router and a wall outlet, and the other into a wall outlet in another room. Devices plugged into either will be accessible via your network. The kit features HomePlug AV certification for compatibility with other HomePlug AV devices, and it supports data transfer speeds of up to 200Mbps -- greater than that of most Wi-Fi devices.

Nice Idea, but....
Product was easy to set up
Setting a private network was a little confusing
Price was reasonable
Can not buy single adapters, have to buy a kit to extend

Biggest disappointment was throughput. rated at 200....can only get 80-100 actual. I have the netgear product as well rated at 200 and I get 150-170 through those units.

Livewire is good for Windows operating systems. I have a apple and it works good with one Mac and one windows based PC. With two Macs, it is a no go.

Comments about Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit:
WD powerline is a cost effective way to reach otherwise inaccessible or hardwired equipment by utilizing your existing electrical wiring. And, the only product to offer not only multiple ports at the destination but also at the hub. This has been invaluable around my office where the remote end provides hardwire access for TIVo, slingbox, WDTV live and playstation but also allows me to connect legacy computers, laser printer and hard wired ip cams at my already fully patched router. Huge value and set up was dead simple. You can't access the security features from a Mac based computer as WD software for powerline doesn't support Mac, which is lame. But not nearly the risk of an unsecured wireless network. For home or small office this is a great solution that's easier to set up and cheaper then a fist full of wireless repeaters.

Comments about Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit:
The WD Livewire Powerline AV does what it says. It was an easy installation. You can hook it up from shipping box to surfing the net in about 10 minutes. I took a little longer as I read the manual and installed the software, but you just plug it in, hit the sync buttons, and wire it to your computer and you will be up and running. I will probably buy two more for other rooms. I stream Netflix and have not had any hiccups.

Just plug into ac outlets (no power strips) and
it works as advertised. I am only using them about
30 ft. apart but works great! I plugged one into
my router and the other into a desktop and it went
to work.

Comments about Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit:
I bought this for my bedroom as I initially have had the router itself in my room, yet with the illumination my router gave off at night along with the rest of the house not receiving the same connection with my bedroom at the end of the house... I needed a solution. Just so happens that I was graced with the WD Live Hub (the [$] one) which I use instead of TV. On top of that, I bought this and put the router in the middle of the house... synced them together & now have my powerful connection for not only the hub, but also for my PS3. Unfortunately, the wiring in this house is so old it can only do so much... though when I move I'm sure it'll be top-notch.

Needed to extend my wireless to far end of basement from oposite upstairs location and this worked grest! Just pluged in and connected the wireless router to it and that was it! Didn't even have to sync it.
Doesn't block my entier outlet.
Could have a longer AC cord.
Would be nice to be able to wall mount it to save desk space an keep wires out of the way.

This set of devices kept me from having to fish wires through walls to get the network to the DVD player. I may get another set for added flexibility in the house. It was a plug and play set up. The streaming video no longer has drop-outs like the WiFi signal did.

I use this product to get internet to our Blu-Ray player that sits in the furthest possible places from the router. When I plugged both ends in, it worked perfectly, no set up necessary. The network connection is strong and stable. Great Product.

Comments about Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit:
My research indicated that the WD powerline kit was the best around and my experience confirms this. The kit is easy to set up and includes a helpful utility program. The units are interchangeable unlike many and have 4 ethernet ports each, greatly expanding their usefulness. These are much faster than many such kits. They are rated for 200 mbps and I typically see speeds in the 160's. I haven't yet tried the kit for HD video streaming but these speeds should be adequate.
