If you're looking for an easy-to-use point and shoot camcorder that offers a few extras then the 2 hour, 8GB Flip Video UltraHD Video Camera is one to check out. The UltraHD features a super-slim design, image stabilization, and compatibility with 'Designed for Flip' products using the FlipPort. These new features of the 8GB UltraHD might surprise you - especially image stabilization - but there's something to be said for added stabilization, a slimmed down unit, and the ability to use the cam with compatible products, such as docking clock radios.
The UltraHD records up to 2 hours of 1280 x 720p HD video to its 8GB internal flash memory, and gives you a 2" LCD on which to record and review images, along with the pre-loaded FlipShare software. FlipShare software automatically starts up when you connect the UltraHD's flip-out USB arm to your PC or Mac. Once connected FlipShare helps you upload to social media sites, pull stills from video, edit, and perform many other tasks with your video. Additionally, if you feel like sharing what you've shot on the big screen, the HDMI Micro Type D connection helps you do just that.

I purchased this camcorder for personal use, particularly to film events that my soldier is missing during the year he's in the desert on the other side of the world. I'm very happy with the quality of the images and sound. Some use is up close, with very excellent video and sound; I also have used it at his girlfriend's high school football games where she is in the band. Obviously, the video and audio are both from a good distance and are a little grainy/pixel-y at the farthest points, as would be expected with a non$1-2K camcorder, but the mid-points (about 50-60 yards away)are surprisingly clear.
What I really love about this camera is the FlipShare program that downloads (if you choose it to) onto your computer directly from the camcorder. It's very user-friendly and I "got it" immediately. There is a link to upload directly to a number of websites ... I uploaded "private" videos to YouTube, then sent the links to my soldier so he could see his girlfriend's smiling face within an hour, and that's something I can't put a price on. (If he's happy ... and safe, then Momma's happy!)
Haven't had it long, but if there are any changes, I'll post again. Overall very, very happy with the quality and ease of use. I'll definitely be using this MUCH more than my miniDV (that punked out on me) because it's so small, very fast in start-up, and ridiculously easy to use.

For the price and convenience the Flip UltraHD III is really a good value. If you can live with the fact that Cisco will no longer be supporting the product in a year, just want a camera to shoot casual video, and aren't too hung up on low-light quality then I'd recommend this to you. I bought this to compare video quality to the Zoom Q3HD while shooting concerts, and there is no comparison. The Zoom HD video quality is far superior to the Flip, where the Flip footage pulls in more reds and pinks when shooting indoors, so the footage has a pink tint to it. Outdoors I haven't notice any real issues. This is a basic camera that will be great for young videographers, and for fun shots on the go.

This product is great for on-the-go, quick videos. I have a 4 month old baby and capturing his moments has never been easier. The built in software and easy to use editing are incredible. I only wish you had more editing capabilities. It's pretty limited. But for the price and the HD quality and the simplicty of it,it's an amazing value :)

This is a great little camera for around the home, trips and school video projects. So very compact but has a quality "feel". We also bought an extra battery and a wall outlet charger to make usage easier. You can't beat the price and the B&H knowledgeable service.

I am a baseball coach, I use the Flip to record Batting Pratice we play the video back on a laptop where the kids can watch there swings. Great video quality and frame rates to catch the batting swing. Small and compact to setup and use!!

I bought this Flip UltraHD as an alternative to using my iPhone 4 to shoot video on the fly. The iPhone 4 does a fine job of video but it's not nearly as convenient to download the video as the simple "flip" USB plug of the Flip UltraHD. Also, the thought of using my iPhone 4 in situations where it could be dropped or otherwise damaged and require a very expensive replacement was incentive to buy a dedicated and very economical Flip. I plan on using it in parks, at the beach, and in other situations that could pose a risk to my iPhone.
I do like the built-in USB. It is really easy to use. I also like that it boots up fast and allows me to catch spontaneous moments easily. The UltraHD can use lithium AAA batteries if the removable LiIon battery drains but so far, battery life is great. The resolution is excellent! This thing is just a lot of fun and while it won't replace my Canon HD camcorder, it's an excellent pocket sized camcorder you will find taking with you on a regular basis "just in case".
A little tip: I bought this and fitted it to a Flip waterproof case made for the 2nd generation Ultra. It is not a direct fit but with some ingenuity and shimming, you can get this 3rd Gen to fit. I used thin neoprene and some other materials to fit the two. It works great! This is another reason I got the Flip; my iPhone 4 ain't going underwater, at least not intentionally.
The things I don't like: The screen is a bit small. The lens does not offer a very wide angle. An aftermarket add-on wide angle adapter is a good solution. B&H offer one at a good price. The sound is not as good as it could be. Of course, this is not meant to be used to film your kid's recitals while you sit way back. It's meant for up close and personal so for that distance, the mic is fine. Just don't expect too much.
Overall, it's a shame that Cisco has killed the Flip. It's really a neat device. Get one while you can!

Though this is a technology that has lost its niche (smart phones will perform all the same basic functions), its still a fantastic little gadget. Kids sporting events, family get-togethers, documenting your toddler's progress, etc. The days of dragging out a cumbersome recording device are passed. The video quality is simply amazing and the audio is rather impressive. The only drawback is the fixed zoom, but what do you want for [$]? Solid device!
