Macally PHR-S250UAB Hi-Speed FireWire/USB 2.0 Storage Enclosure
The Macally PHR-S250UAB Hi-Speed FireWire/USB 2.0 Storage Enclosure converts any 2.5" SATA hard disk drive (up to 9.5 mm height), into a desktop external drive. This enclosure features a solid-aluminum body, which provides excellent heat dissipation. It's equipped with a USB 2.0 port that's backwards compatible with a USB 1.1 interface. The PHR-S250UAB features dual FireWire interfaces that support both FireWire 800 and 400 connections. The dual FireWire ports also facilitate additional storage via daisy chaining multiple drives together. There are two shock-absorbent rubber strips that buffer each side of the enclosure, augmenting both durability and grip. The PHR-S250UAB is hot-pluggable, bus-powered and compatible with both PC and Mac.

This is an awesome product. Works flawlessly. Only reason I gave it four stars is because it should come with an ac adapter to plug it in to a power outlet. It does however come with a usb power adapter, but I would rather not take up another usb port on my Macbook Pro. (keep in mind that this unit is powered by the firewire/usb bus, so no adapter is actually needed.

Received this product the other day and am impressed with its appearance and build quality. Dropped in the 320GB 7200RPM HDD I removed from my MBP, as previously mentioned by other reviewers, the fit is a little snug; plugged it in using FW 800 and BAM!, files practically flew across onto the external HDD.
I am planning on using this to store iMovie projects so I don't fill up my primary HDD. I have been able to convert and edit movies stored on the external HDD without any lag, hangups, etc.
Enclosure gets a bit hot when heavily accessing the HDD but it's aluminum so it helps dissipate heat.
Would buy another one without question.

I keep my old laptop hard drive in here after replacing it with a bigger size.
Good things: Firewire 800 is bloody fast. The enclosure is nice and solid. The cables are sturdy and high quality.
The not so good: it does get hot. Quiet hot. When I was cloning my hard drive before my replacing my laptop, I had to keep a ice-pack (wrapped in a towel) on top of it for most of the 6-hours it took to complete.

If you're looking for a FW800/400/USB2 enclosure look no further. This one is sturdy and very easy to assemble. 2 well machined screws hold on the backplate, and 4 screws to secure the drive. A spare 2.5" drive, a small phillips screwdriver and 5 minutes is all it takes to have a new external HD.
The rubber runners, top and bottom are a nice touch, and overall the fact that it's aluminum means I won't break the case in case of a drop.
I've used other plastic external cases before, and their screws were as pain to get screw in, and getting to holes to line up was a chore. This case, being metal avoids those problems.
I highly recommend this case and currently B&H had it for the lowest price I can find.

Just a terrific enclosure. Easy installation, well-made, fast. Also be aware that it comes with all kinds of cables including a FW800 one. I bought one separately because the description does not mention it. At least three different cables are included.
