I have recently moved my digital workflow to include tethering a Nikon D700 to a 15" Macbook Pro laptop.
One of the elements in this process is stationing the laptop close to the camera when on location. Upon researching laptop platforms that connect to tripods, I found this gem. With the Gitzo name behind it I expected nothing less than rock solid and rugged. I was not disappointed. This is a very simple tool but, as I have incorporated it into my tethered shooting on location process, it has been indispensable. It is solid and easy to connect to the tripod. The one thing that I've added that makes this product better is a piece of non-slip drawer liner cut to fit inside the perimeter (this material can be found at most department stores and is quite inexpensive). I attach it to my heavy duty Gitzo tripod and am at ease with my laptop perched on the platform. The GO65 fits perfectly into the front pocket of my rolling camera case. This is a must have for the working pro who tethers on location or in studio. One minor note: when I first received the monitor platform the center threaded mechanism was installed backwards. It took me a minute to figure out that the 'turning knob' should go on 'top' of the platform and rest into the recessed area. I popped the retaining ring off and made the switch.

This product was purchased for shooting tethered on location with a 17" laptop. We only use Gitzo tripods so its a easy fit to a Gitzo (or any tripod) with a locknut that is part of the platform.
The down side is the dimensions are not as described by Gitzo or B&H. It is meant to be 15.7" wide but is in fact only 15.5" wide and that is on the outside, not on the inside of the bent lip that runs around the edge of the platform.
This means that your 17" Mac laptop does not quite fit solidly inside the platform lip, which gives it a bit of squirm room, and makes you feel a bit for the security of the laptop.
We inserted a piece of foam under the laptop which gave it a better feel.

Works well for supporting a 17" LCD monitor (or larger). Needed to buy a small adapter for it to work with our Manfrotto tripod.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I've always wanted to get this for my photographic use and previously I'm using the manfrotto projector platform. The gitzo one is bigger and lighter, even though I hate the grey color, nevertheless its better design than other competitors.
Take note I'm comparing this model to other equivalent ones release during the same time. I understand there are now a lot more models that can take a notebook computer. This model is meant more for projector use during film era. Go get the new ones if you intend to put a notebook. This product is more for projector use.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
The lock ring on the connector does not create a tight enough connection to give me any confidence that the laptop will not tip off the stand. I pulled it off, and reversed it as others have stated. If you have a 1/4" stud on your tripod, order the accessory noted to convert.
When you do flip the connector over, it will stick up above the platform tray surface. My lapop battery puts the laptop on a slant and this was not a problem. But if your laptop has a flat bottom you may have to grind some of the top off.
There is not room for a mouse.
The only good thing I can say it that is was less expensive than going into the machine shop and making the proper tray.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I needed something to hold an LCD projector at various heights for a project I'm working on. I thought that my tripod would be great for this, if I just had a platform to put on top. Then I found the Gitzo platform.
It's very strong and very steady. Just perfect to hold the projector. I added a few webbing straps to hold the projector in place.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I saw some reviews of other platforms that were big and warped. So I decided to spend the extra money on the G-065. Was not disappointed, it is solid and well built. Only drawback is it's price, but worth it.

Works ok but a little overpriced.
Use velcro tape to secure laptop.
Easy for some company to make a half-priced knock-off that is just as good.

I think you could almost do a handstand on the platform. It's very sturdy and good to go with the two head mount.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
This is a simple, strong and easy to use attachment.
It does not rotate, if you try, it can become loose.
It would be better if you could attach the laptop to it, it is bit nerve wrecking at times.

I use the G-065 Monitor Platform by Gitzo with a Manfrotto DOUBLE HEAD SUPPORT (3153B)for tethered shooting. It provides a solid platform for my 17" MacBook Pro.Recently I used it at a wedding for a Photo Booth setup. This plate really proved it's value there. With the Manfrotto DOUBLE HEAD SUPPORT (3153B) and a sturdy Gitzo Carbon Fiber tripod it provided the perfect setup. Kids literally hung on the plate trying to see the monitor. It didn't bend, slide, break, give in any way! Check it out at [...] It is a really hit at a Wedding. (The tripod was weighted down.) The monitor sits right on top of the plate. I use a bit of gaffers tape to hold it down.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I'm using this with Gitzo lateral side arm so the platform on a tripod head and the camera on a ball head are all on the same tripod. I've taped the laptop down for safety purposes but when I travel. I will use velcro female on the bottom of the laptop and male on the platform to secure it. it's working very well.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
Used mainly for tethered shooting but also for holding a digital projector, and occasionally for subjects to be photographed using close focus or macro technique.
It would have been nice if the raised edges had been more prominent to minimize the chance of the laptop being jettisoned unexpectedly- I need to be very sure that the setup is level to the ground to avoid this problem.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I noticed that when I connected it to my manfrotto double head support it was really loose and wobbly. Thanks to someone else who commented on here, I realized that I to had received it with the threaded knob mechanism reversed. The threaded knob that you turn with your hand should be on top where the laptop rests. It looks like Gitzo is shipping them reversed. I had to use a flat head screw driver to pry off the retaining ring and flip the assembly. It now holds on perfectly with no wobble.

Comments about Gitzo G065 Monitor Platform:
I got the platform originally for tethered shooting and did not realize until recently how helpful it was also to support my old fashioned slide projector, which can be raised on the tripod to any working height and avoid distortion of the projected image.
